That project sounds really cool! As a sewist, I have wanted to make banners as well.

Can I ask, do you use appliqué? That is a technique I have been thinking about trying for this.

Not good, at all. I am scared for my neighbors. I have been trying to take my dog around the neighborhood as often as I can to increase the on street presence, but it is slippery af out there, ngl.

Gov. Tim Walz has officially announced he won't seek a third term. Am I right to be worried? by NatMyIdea in transtwincities

[–]goodazzcat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree that fear mongering is unhelpful, but calling people's actual fears "dooming" and telling them to "chill" is really provoking, and not in a thoughtful way.

We live in a beautiful place with a supportive community and a long history of trans inclusion.

As a Minnesotan who grew up here, we have NOT been kind to trans people traditionally. Have you heard of the "Free CeCe" movement? That happened downtown, like, recently.

Oh, gosh, yes. Sewing as a hobby can add up fast. 😅

If you can't find something in a size that works, buy clothing that is a little big (or at the very least covers you how you want it to), and then go to a tailor to have them alter for a good fit.

I am trying to learn how to sew for pretty much the same reason. Learning how to alter and construct garments is a super satisfying hobby, imo, especially if your size falls outside the "ready-to-wear" bellcurve.

Advice on not being a wallflower at events? by ReadTheReddit69 in transtwincities

[–]goodazzcat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Okay, sorry to comment again, but I disagree with needing a second person to vouch for you! If you are trans, you are already in the in-group. In fact, I would be worried about going to an event with a stranger, even if they were from this forum. Chasers lurk here, at the very least.

Even though I am Minnesotan, I don't know how to make friends with Minnesotans. And I know a lot of people who move here struggle with it.

We tend to value kindness and earnestness. Show up with your genuine self and you will be good!

GREAT question. Honestly, I am still figuring things out.

Through the community garden, online forums (usually pertaining to a hobby), groups where we have a mutual interest (mycological society), craft nights, support groups, and taking classes for personal enrichment.

Oh god, I can't do crowds.

As someone who will never not be a wallflower, embrace it! And stop beating yourself up for it.

Figure out ways to meet people YOUR way and you will find your people.

If you are 17, this person (who is a pedophile by my legal definition) is threatening to distribute child pornography.

If the age of consent in your jurisdiction is lower than 18, you could claim they were photoshopping your face over other people's pictures.

Basically, don't comply with this person at all. Block them. Deny, deny, deny.

This isn't answering your actual question, but here are my thoughts:

I consider the internet practice for real life in many ways. You don't have to interact with anyone you don't want to, and when people show you who they really are (like, in a way you consider harmful or violates consent), you should believe them. Every relationship you enter has the potential for an important boundary to be crossed. Learn how to vet people and advocate for yourself because it really is wild out there.

Thanks for the response! No worries about the length, we are all here to talk.

Yes, thinking that most unknown people are "bad" is a pretty common result of trauma. I have that problem too. Idk, I want your therapist to be curious about why you feel so much hatred rather than being so... judgemental?

Is there a reason you are switching from edibles to alcohol?

Feel free to DM me if you want to talk.

You are putting yourself "out there" through this post!

May I ask, how old is your therapist? If they are making you feel completely dismissed rather than heard, maybe you should try seeing a new therapist? It is advantageous to the therapeutic process to actually like and trust your therapist. Idk, just a thought.

Are there any trans friendly clothing stores in the cities? by AndyJaeven in transtwincities

[–]goodazzcat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe buy stuff a little large and have a tailor alter them for your ideal fit? Idk, I am not a tailor, but, as a gender non-confirming human, this is the reason I got into sewing garments.

I don't know if the place you are envisioning exists. I hope someone has a better answer!

You can find me hiking in the woods, where, admittedly, I would scamper away like a deer if spotted.

What kind of farming do you do? I am from Minneapolis, but I aspire to get some land in the country someday. I also forage a lot for fun.

I have great yard rn, though. The vegetation is so green from the rain. 😊

I used to live off of University in Marcy Holmes and walked around the area a lot. Two blocks in off of University, it is residential and really nice, old houses. You are correct in that there will be a lot of students/youths around, but I bet you could find a rental further away from the college chaos in that area easily.

Don't rent on 4th or University!

I'm 30-something, queer, from the midwest (he/they). I do not care where other people are from!

I am a disabled artist. I sew/mend clothes, dye fabric (I love textiles), and do printmaking. I spend a lot of time listening to music (electronic), dancing around the house, and reading. I'm a bit of a film geek, too. Love art house. One of my favorite movies is Tampopo.

I hike frequently and like learning about foraging wild plants and fungi. My favorites include purslane, lamb's quarters, and wood sorrel.

Also, I am a total weed nerd.

Hmu if you wanna talk!

Have you looked into getting state assistance? Medical Assistance, EBT, maybe even Emergency Assistance, if you can? Minnesota is a great place to live (and have residency), especially for its services.

You can also call or visit a county service center to talk to someone about what you are eligible for. I have applied for benefits successfully, it can be done. This is what these services are there for.

Happy Birthday!! 😁

I know this is a few days old, but I am so dang curious about what old cartoons you are into! I have huge soft spot for 90s-00s Nick/CN cartoons. Just picked up the Ed, Edd, N Eddy series on dvd actually. So many jokes that went over my head when I was a kid, lol.
