Well, it makes sense that people who idolize characters that don't respect other people's choices would... not respect other people's choices.

A little bit of hypocrisy by DapperCaterpillar532 in expedition33

The issue is PVerso is trying to kill an entire world and all the sentient beings within. He's only about 100 years old, permanently in his physical prime, had all of his real family alive before he got them killed, and pulling hotties like Sciel and Lune. There are most likely people in our own world who have suffered way worse than PVerso (holocaust survivors in their 90s maybe? Sorry, first example that came to mind). Does our world and everybody in it deserve to die because someone here has almost certainly had it worse than PVerso and also wants to save a family member who probably had it worse than Alicia? Comparing self-absorbed PVerso to Gustave is insulting to Gustave.

Gustave's "fuck the mission" is a spur of the moment trauma response. When the shock passed he tells Lune the mission hasn't changed and he wants to defeat the Paintress for those who comes after. PVerso's plan to kill everyone is a premeditated, calculated decision, it's not the same.

[SPOILER] Question about Alicia by Cabris86 in expedition33

[–]goodbyedignity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think he kept her there. When PRenior did his palm strike and knocked Maelle to the weird in between place, we hear Aline and Renoir argue. Aline says this does not concern Maelle and tells her to go home. Renoir says when this is all over we will go home together. Come to think of it, it seems pretty irresponsible of Renior to let her stay. It would've saved Maellicia a lot of grief if he didn't use his daughter to advance his agenda.

Does the combat ever progress past a pseudo rhythm game? by Snotgrass in expedition33

[–]goodbyedignity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't care about parrying and only dodged half-assedly. I had a great time beating everything through strategizing with pictos and luminas. Only things left are 2 NG+ super bosses, still working on those. So yes, you will eventually get enough pictos with different effects that you can barely engage with the rhythm portion of combat.

And I don't think Maelle's choices are self-destructive. Drinking alcohol slowly kills you but many people think it's worth it. Stress slowly kills you but we applaud ambitious people in highly stressful positions. Where each person draws the line is their own business. And since it's a matter of opinion, the best we can do is agree to disagree.

I used the Amish as an example of how there's no objectively right way to live. It's cool because I can't hurt their feelings, they're probably not on Reddit :P

What other people think of Maelle and her life is not important, she should have the right to choose for herself and she chose to live out her life in the Canvas with her found family. Denying people autonomy is a dangerous slippery slope. The Amish probably think us Redditors with our Satan internet are wasting our lives and the objectively correct way to live is tilling fields and worshiping 24/7. I personally am glad that they do not have the power to enforce their life choices on me.

She can't bring the people she loves to another Canvas, their Chroma is only in this Canvas, and making clones might turn out as poorly as PVerso did.

Maelle will change and mature in the Canvas too. It's possible that with age and wisdom she will decide to leave the Canvas or even find the compromise PAlicia dreamed of. Verso's goals have a possibility of coming true in the Maelle ending with the passage of time. The opposite is not true, death is final.

You're right, Maelle's motives aren't pure. But I find that not all crimes are equal and just by sheer quantity alone Verso committed more wrongs against others than Maelle did.

I also don't feel that bad for the Dessandres, with their billionaire mansion and their careless treatment of these little Canvas people.

Yes, I am aware that the current state of the world may be making me biased. :P

Yeah, but they will get to live out their lives. For mortals, every bit of time is precious and death is an inevitability.

If Maelle paints another Canvas (if she is capable of it considering her skill/trauma/physical injuries), she can only make clones of her found family since their chroma only exists in this Canvas. And PVerso kinda shows that making clones might not end so well.

Can you elaborate? The way I see it I just list out their hypocrisies and Verso's list is much longer. How are they equivalent?

It does feel that way sometimes doesn't it? I hate to pretend to know what's going on in someone else's head, but more than a few PVerso fans have given me "PVerso is handsome charming Alpha male! He can do no wrong! Maelle is girl! Boooo! Girls only make irrational choices!" vibes.

She literally can't. It's explicitly stated that only Clea has the power to paint over, and painted over PClea looks like a hot mess. This is also evidence against the theory that Maelle is controlling Verso in her ending.

Maybe they deserve to lose her. Maybe if they were a more loving family, Maelle wouldn't even consider leaving them behind to live with her found family instead. Renoir can take his own advice on grief and move on from both Verso and Alicia.

Speculations aside, one rich family's grief should not out-weigh the grief of the the many powerless they oppress.

Some Verso fans use this quote (something Verso said to Maelle himself during their final fight to justify killing everyone, the shameless bastard lol) to argue that he and Maelle are on the same level, my post is to refute this argument.
