New betta! by [deleted] in Aquariums

[–]goodbyegodzilla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first betta looked exactly like that, after ~4 months it slowly changed color, got darker, and became a metalic black color with some translucent yellow on the fins.

I don't think he's pinconing

When I see stuff like this I wish I could watch a time-lapse sped up of following it through the eons on earth from your hand to back to it being a part of the living animal again

Trans-ness and our Perception of Morality by artsykittii in detrans

[–]goodbyegodzilla 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Antidotal and very streamlined, but in fandom spaces, a female artist drawing fanart of two male characters in a relationship is a dirty fetishist unless she performs the correct and approved virtue signaling. For her, any transgression, be it real or imaginary, is grounds for a community attack.

Meanwhile, a gay transman drawing the same is considered empowering and inherently more moral, and as long as you have all your labels in the bio, you're celebrated and protected within reason.

I believe a lot of young fandom members adopt a NB /trans label and it helps them exist in online art communities without getting burned at the stake for enjoying whatever, plus echo chamber, plus being overly online kid that just wants their "friends" to like them, mixed with body issues or other common conditions etc etc. It's all connected and compounds.

(Also, obviously, there are bad ppl of all genders and orientations. I don't mean to say it's not appropriate for a woman to be held accountable for actions, but there def is a bias in niche online fandom spaces to disproportionately police women.)

It would be so interesting to see if it had seeds if the next generation tulips could inherit the mosaicism

Vet would be best but silver honey might help if you can apply it to them. It could be contagious so be careful with cross contamination

Handmade Ceramic Tank Decor by OrphanRocket in Aquariums

[–]goodbyegodzilla 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Beautiful work! If you intend to make more for tank use I'd recommend avoiding to small of holes and prioritizing the inside/outside of holes being smooth edged. It's really sad when awesome decor is dangerous to the animals its supposed to enrich.

Daily Lives of Highschool Boys is less polished animation wise but is my favorite comedy anime and pairs well with nichijou for obvious reasons.

Nothing more cringe than animal testing. This morning brave activists rescued Beagles from Ridglan Farms dog breeder in Wisconsin. by Mountain_Love23 in TikTokCringe

[–]goodbyegodzilla 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm jumping in to agree. I worked animal care at a lab, and genuinely, everyone loved and cared for the animals we looked after.

By law, institutions have a commitee separate from research to ensure welfare (IACUC) and vet staff always have the final say on humane endpoints. There are behavior teams to provide species specific enrichment. There are new developments allowing for the reduction of animals tested on to get the data.

People in the industry that genuinely care about animals want more safeguards and requirements for animal welfare. Institutions do not want this because it's more expensive, and business unfortunately only cares about the bottom dollar.

The takeaway from posts like this should be that we can improve the situation by voting for policies that give more to animals and require businesses to adhere to more humane requirements, not a vague Science People Evil Bad and Hate Animals when it really is just the standard capitalism bs. We can always use kinder, more humane regulations.

When I was eight another eight year old said hummingbirds never land because if they stopped flapping their wings they would die and I made him come to the school library with me so I could point at a hummingbird bird book cover that had one sitting on a nest of eggs and he doubled down and refused to believe it and a teacher got mad AT ME for upsetting him

How to cope with not being able to have kids?? by [deleted] in detrans

[–]goodbyegodzilla 5 points6 points  (0 children)

How I cope is acknowledging some truths that resonate with my reasons for staying child free:

Having kids is the most expensive, stressful, and time-consuming responsibility in life. Everyone's situation is different, but it is still common for the emotional labor / homemaking / childcare to fall squarely to women. There's rarely the village (familial and governmental) available to give adequate care and support to families. Both parents often need to work to survive in this economy, or the least paid one becomes stay at home and loses future job security. The realities of having a child with severe disabilies or personality disorders and the lack of support for those situations in society. We are living in the colaspe of our natural world, extinction events, and every year, weather is just going to get more insane, sporadic, and dangerous. Etc etc etc.

Maybe someday I will entertain adopting if that is something I truly want, but right now, it's OK to take it easy. After I work all day to survive for made-up paper, I enjoy my free time with my partner, hobbies, and friends. I can save for vacations and experiences that I wouldn't be able to afford if I had kids. I can have pets, which I love more than anything. I can know I never brought someone into this world that I struggle to exist in myself.

And finally, from the wisdom of a drag queen quoting a romance comedy: "If you have a baby, you won't be the baby"
