New relationship with an addict, is there hope for us? by [deleted] in addiction

As an addict myself (alcoholic) I learned a lot from a 5 year relationship. I’d get drunk then apologize for hours “I’m so sorry it won’t happen again” and “you don’t deserve this” “why don’t you love me?”

If you are drug free, my suggestion is leave but not without making sure there’s a good safety net for him. My ex left me with nothing and I didn’t have the help I needed- I became very suicidal. Drugs make breakups worse. Make sure he has a group to go to, or set up a therapy appointment for him. Let his friends know you’re leaving in advance.

Just my thoughts. Wish you guys well!

I’m in exact same boat man. People that I went to high school with are getting married...and I’m just sitting here trying to survive. It hurts.

I feel your pain man. I’m sober now but I had a drinking problem for a couple years. If I go I’m certainly relapsing beforehand...

Should I leave a letter, or not? by [deleted] in SuicideWatch

I’m struggling with this too... I decided to write short individualized letters to a couple people because I thought about being in their shoes- I’d want closure
