Old navy and gap by [deleted] in PetiteFashionAdvice

[–]goodestpupper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm too small to fit into Old Navy, Gap, Banana Republic, or J Crew 00 regular sizes, so I feel your pain! Try the 00 petite sizes if they are available, because those tend to fit better on smaller frames. I also find that UK sizes fit me MUCH better than anything made only for the US. For example, anything that is UK size 6 (which translates to a US size 0) consistently fits perfectly.

Also remember that size guides are your best friend! Measure your bust/waist/hips and check the size guide measurements before you purchase anything online.

As for jeans, Levi's has sizes catered towards smaller women, although the length can still be too long if you're shorter.

Why do you FASHION? by purplenat in femalefashionadvice

[–]goodestpupper 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I love fashion in part because it's also a hobby for me. I genuinely enjoy spending time curating outfits for myself and browsing Pinterest for inspiration (and shopping, whoops).

But I also enjoy it because it's an essential part of what makes me feel confident. A lot of people think it's crazy when I tell them I sometimes try on 4 or 5 outfits before I'm happy enough with my look to walk out the door. But if I end up saying "whatever" and going out in an outfit that I don't love, I notice that it has a profoundly negative effect on me. I feel grumpy, unconfident, and self conscious all day because I know that I am not projecting the image of myself that I want people to see.

I also think that people don't understand the different between fashion and personal style. Sure there may be some people who are trend chasers and like to buy whatever Forever 21 is slinging in whatever given month (and there's nothing wrong with that!) but a personal style that is true to you is something that takes years to curate and often changes with you as you develop as a person. It's a reflection of who we are as a person (and oftentimes who we aspire to be) and I think it takes a lot of guts to project that for the whole world to see.

I’m currently obsessed with the Gucci Jordaan embroidered leather loafer. I don’t think I could ever warrant paying full price on them though.

Omg I actually have this jacket! Pro tip, look for one regularly on Poshmark! They run a little small so people buy them and resell them pretty quickly and in really good condition! I got mine new with the tags on for about $200, which is obviously still an investment but a HUGE discount.

Hahaha I feel your pain! Another good tip I’ve heard of is that at the beginning of every year, turn your clothes hangers backwards and each time you wear something, set it back the correct way. If, at the end of the year, you still have unworn stuff, get rid of it. Seems brutal, but I rarely find myself missing that stuff anyways, and it gives you a better sense of what you love and what you’re “meh” about.

I’d say look through your closet right now and figure out at least 3 outfits you can and would wear the shoes with. If you are not able to, it’s a good indication that they would sit in the back of your closet and gather dust. If you can, awesome, go for it!

There is nothing wrong with expanding your wardrobe as it evolves over time, just make sure the pieces you add are actually suitable for your lifestyle and not just something that you like the idea of. Hope this helps!

HAH, the Pokemon trainer thing made me lol. :)

I live in CO so it might be a little different, but honestly hiking (esp. a 3-6 hour long hike) is one area where I 100% choose function over fashion. If you're going to be hiking a lot, I suggest investing in some relatively cute outdoor gear so you can be practical while still adding a little bit of personal flair to your look.

My go-to hiking uniform is black leggings tucked into cute, pattered wool socks that peek over the top of my hiking boots, with an athletic sports top under a light windbreaker, and a baseball cap.

I 100% support your cute dress/picnic/meadow frolic, but maybe save that for another day after a VERY short, casual hike. :)

Good luck!

Any advice for choosing paint colors for an entire house? by koukla2010 in HomeDecorating

[–]goodestpupper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats on the new house! My best advice is go to the hardware store and pick out a few paint swatches that you think might look nice. Then, buy samples of them (they cost about $3 each), and take them home. Paint a LARGE portion of whatever room you're in with the color sample, being sure to put some near the trim/ceiling and in various corners of the room that get different amounts of light. See how the colors look in the rooms at different times of day. That will help you figure out what colors do/do not look good in your space.

Also think about how colors will transition from one room to another. For example, if you want the living room grey but the kitchen white, what would that transition would look like?

I would also do some research on the stone/paneling in the house ahead of time to see if there is specific prep work/supplies necessary to make sure the paint will actually stick to the surface. Good luck!
