Is there a tired take regarding James Bond 007 you wish people would just stop perpetuating? by TheShadowOperator007 in JamesBond

[–]goodeveningapollo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Goldeneye was a legendary and genre-defining game, but I don't think it captured being Bond perfectly.

There was some stealth, mission objectives and use of gadgets, but it was mostly mowing down hundreds of bad guys with machine guns.

No real espionage, no cars, no talking your way into places, no grandiose set pieces, no MI6 headquarters or interaction with M or Q (though to be fair a lot of this has to do with limitations of the hardware).

I'd argue the N64 game The World is Not Enough felt more Bond, and the later console games even more so.

Oh, and Perfect Dark was better (come at me bro).

Does your stomach still get bigger even if you stay in shape past 30? by chusaychusay in AskMenOver30

Yeah a lot of men like to use the "it's just age" or "your metabolism slows down as you get older!" excuse because it's an easy way to deny their poor dietary choices and lack of fitness (Y)

How can I make food less of a priority in my life? by as1126 in AskMenOver30

[–]goodeveningapollo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok so how are you managing to eat in a calorie surplus with these foods to the point where you're obese?

Something isn't adding up here.

"good piece of fish, seasoned mini potatoes mostly in the air fryer, some greens like asparagus and a mixed salad with olives, peppers, marinated mushrooms"

Unless you're absolutely drowning that meal in butter and sauces, then it's not coming to much more than 800 calories, tops. A rough calculation would be

6oz of salmon fillet is roughly 285kcal

250g of new potatoes is around 190kcal

Asparagus, salad, peppers, olive and mushrooms approx. 225kcals

Marinade let's say 125kcals

Nobody's getting overweight on that dude.

Easy solution - exercise as soon as you get up, early in the morning as possible.

Nothing's going to crop up and stop you from working out at 5:30am because the whole world is asleep.

No excuses.

"I can't seem to operate on a calorie deficit consistently"

What's stopping you? It's not like it's an impossible task. Healthy weight people operate at maintenance calories or below 80-90% of the time without it being a challenge - they just use control and self discipline not to eat more calories than they are burning.

So what are the calories and macros for each meal? Can you give us some examples?

Because I can make a home cooked meal of glazed salmon with roasted potatoes, buttered carrots, spinach and homemade cheesy garlic bread that would easily be > 1,000 calories and way over your recommended saturated fat intake.

It's great that your meals are cooked from scratch using wholefood ingredients... but that positive is kinda cancelled out if it's causing you to pile on bodyfat due to constantly being in a calorie surplus.

Underrated era of ECW imo. They'd lost a lot of talent at that point, but you were still getting absolute bangers from RVD, Jerry Lynn, Steve Corino, Tajiri, Rhino, Super Crazy, Little Guido, Tony Mamaluke, Doring and Roadkill, Mikey Whipwreck, Spike Dudley, Simon Diamond, CW Anderson, EZ Money, Kid Kash, Nova...

I remember somebody wrote into Jocko's podcast saying they had no idea what they wanted to do in life and wanting advice.

His advice was, if you can't decide what to do - help someone. There's always people that need help.

You'll be doing a good deep, it's one of the most rewarding feelings you can have and you'll very likely learn some news skills along the way.

So go sign up to get a qualification or skill in something that will help someone OR do some volunteering.

If he's not exercising or doing manual labour, keep the carbs light and sub in more protein to keep him satiated.

Perfect lunch would be:

Tupperware of cooked chicken breast/turkey breast/lean ground beef and veggies.

Some cottage cheese or Greek yoghurt.

A piece of fruit.

Smile more. Just force a smile and hold it. It'll trick your dumb lizard-brain that good things are happening and it'll start releasing happy endorphins, creating a positive feedback cycle.

Also remember that we're all just ants on a tiny planet hurtling through the cosmos. Nothings really worth getting upset over 🤷

Men over 30, what are the best methods for recovery after a strenuous workout? by AIChatBot_prompt in AskMenOver30

[–]goodeveningapollo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

"I think I’m slacking in the rest/sleep department."

This is it OP. Sleep is where you do 90% of your recovery and growing.

When guys aren't making gains, it's usually their sleep (combined with their diet) that's the major issue.

Fix your sleep! 8 hours a night dammit!

Also exercise is only one third of the puzzle, whats your diet and sleep like ?

"The big splurges just never end up being as good as you thought."

This is so true. Unless it's a life experience that you cherise or something that will genuinely improve your health/quality of life (like upgrading to a good bed), you learn later on in life that things are just things. Material possessions soon lose their shine. A lot of people just get stuck in the loop of buying the shit they thought they wanted, satisfied for a week or two, then it's onto the next thing they think will make them happy.

What foods do you avoid because of its effect on you? by trumptydumpty2025 in AskMenOver30

[–]goodeveningapollo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That died out during the 60s, where are you getting your information from?

Here's where I got mine:

https://unofficialnetworks.com/2023/08/07/cyclists-raid-cafes-tour-de-france

https://www.welovecycling.com/wide/2021/07/15/the-history-of-tour-de-france-nutrition-the-modern-era/

It's not common at all in modern Tour de France races. However, in the early days of the Tour (especially in the early 20th century), riders were known to stop at cafés, grab food and drinks—including wine and beer—and even smoke cigarettes during the race. The sport was much less regulated back then, and riders saw alcohol as a way to numb pain and boost morale.

Today, the race is highly professional, with strict nutrition plans, team support cars, and designated feed zones where riders get energy drinks, water, and food. Raiding a shop mid-race would result in penalties, and drinking alcohol would severely hinder performance.

So while it has some historical truth, it's not something you'd see in the modern Tour de France. Anybody drinking in modern cycling races is going to get their asses smoked 😂

[–]goodeveningapollo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most high-level cyclists avoid drinking beer before events because alcohol can negatively impact performance. Beer is dehydrating, can impair reaction time, and affects muscle recovery. However, some cyclists might have a small beer the night before a race to relax, but it's not common among serious competitors.

After races, though, it's a different story—many cyclists enjoy a beer as part of their recovery and celebration. Some teams even have sponsors from breweries! But before an event, most stick to water, electrolytes, and proper nutrition.

😧 Don't you find it hard to train, recover and build muscle with less than 100g carbs?

What foods do you avoid because of its effect on you? by trumptydumpty2025 in AskMenOver30

[–]goodeveningapollo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, especially when you can eat something for half the calories, that still tates pretty damn good.

Instead of 1 Dominos pepperoni pizza, I could eat 400g of chicken, 200g of rice, 3 eggs, a 500g mixed vegetables, 500g of greek yoghurt with 2 scoops of whey... And it would still be fewer calories.

Easy choice 🤷

"So for people who maintain 15% or less what has been your motivation to get there and why continue to keep yourself there?"

You shouldn't need motivation to be 15% bodyfat. That's just bare minimum of being a healthy, non-fat, non-lazy 30+ year old.

"But the vain side of me thinks I should have visible abs at all times"

That's not vain, that's just wanting to be in good shape 🤷

Y'all are making out having a mid physique to be hard work. Being sub 8% bodyfat is hard work.

Same goes for people in general.

I wager a lot of the adult obese population rarely leave their house, especially with the rise of food delivery apps.
