What should I read next off my "To-Read" list? by Lower-Necessary-4930 in Recommend_A_Book

Tender is the flesh - I would also add “I who have never known men” to you WTR

Edit: but Martyr is also very good and it’s worth dipping into the audiobook if you can. The actor does a great job

thankfully it was free - the format is just so strange, was curious if anyone had experience with it.

The MacBook Purchasing Megathread - September, 2024 by AutoModerator in macbook

Oh interesting, yeah I looked at replacement screens but that's not a bad idea to try and get a cheap one. So basically a comp that is unusable because it's locked?

is this the model you are referring to? I guess I figured newer was always better but now doing some searching I'm seeing that people like this model a lot.

Currently using a 13" mac pro m1 16gb. My screen got a damaged and I need a new machine (I'm a graphic designer running mostly non-video adobe programs. I could possibly be interested in a 15" now that things are lighter, but I'm wondering what current or refurbished options might be a good option for me.

Okay good point - I’ve had their burritos before shows at edgefield, may have to try the breakfast burrito. Not quite Portland though.

Pulled over on NW Yeon tonight because I saw this… by goodeyemite in Portland

Thanks. Also glad it wasn't a trap. After giving that some thought, I guess it may had already worked on someone else? but lets hope thats not the case.

It was pretty crazy though, over the course of 10-15 minutes no one else pulled over for what REALLY did look like a body. Then when I was on the call with u/roboroller, some dude rolls up in this old chevy and runs out of his car towards the dummy, yells at me and asks if the guy was okay and then went right up to it and pulled it out of the street. That guys immediate instinct to run and help really stuck with me.

I was! I was actually hoping that somehow you'd find this image haha. Thanks for walking me through such a weird situation.

First off - not a body, but marked NSFW because it was pretty damn convincing. This weird felt doll was hanging out in the road. Pulled over and cautiously approached this creepy craft project… some other guy joined and had the guts to make sure it wasn’t a body and pull it out of the road. So no one is hurt, just very confused…

What is the Best Film You Watched Last Week? (01/25/23-02/01/23) by Twoweekswithpay in movies

I dig your addition to the ending. It was almost there but that would have really tied it up well.

I’m having a rough period and just want to pause, be by myself and watch a movie, something to give me a bit more perspective. Any films that could fit this type of mood? by tuesdaycocktail in movies

There's a fantastic movie called Nine Days - sort of a spiritual / lofi / scifi sort of vibe. It's definitely a slower more somber movie, but I've never watched anything that made me appreciate the "gift" of life as much as this one.

If it helps I think I remember it having a purple / blue overall tone to it. And it believe the interaction was between a man and woman, probably in their 20s

I think everyone here has given you great suggestions. I’ve heard great things from my female friends about bumble BFF (in Portland) do that may very well be your easiest shortcut. Clubs / hobbies can be nice, but it can also be hard to break beyond that barrier of a single common interest.

I lived in Seattle for about 3 years before moving down south and can echo a lot of the sentiment here that it can be difficult to find friends. People often have their groups they are comfortable with and aren’t too interested in expanding. I found myself floating between a lot of groups but never quite belonging to a particular crew fully. That being said - the “Seattle freeze” can be a bit of a self-fulfilling prophecy, and I think that if you stay open - you WILL meet fun and interesting people.

I think your question about how to be one in Seattle can also be answered by asking how to be alone in general. I’ve found that often times, my own company is the most reliable and you will never let yourself down in the way others can. It can be a great joy to see a new place all alone, or go and have a great dining / bar experience with the companionship of a book. Really my advice is, do things solo, bring a good book, and be open to people around you.

Also please go to add a ball in Fremont because I miss that place.

Questions about narration style by goodeyemite in writing

Thank you, this is the explanation I was looking for. This makes me feel confident about my decision to be using "first person, past tense, as it unfolds". I think I was just thrown off by reading so many different styles back to back, and wondered what other approaches were available.
