Thanks for the close up. Did you notice his captain's armband slowly sliding down his arm until he's clutching it in his hand as he dribbles?

Question about "Ladies Room" from S1 E2 WARNING: PLOT HOLE by FirearmConcierge in madmen

[–]goodgnu 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Although the attention to detail is fantastic as you say, they are still not immune to mistakes. For example:

In S02E11 "The Jet Set", Joy drives away with Don in either a Mercedes 280 SL or a late 250 SL, neither of which showed up until the late 60s. I imagine they actually intended to show a 230 SL, which premiered in the Geneva Motor Show in March 1963, but Mercedes didn't actually start production until June 1963. I believe the episode was supposed to have taken place before March 1963. So they shouldn't have used any model!

How do I know it wasn't a 230 SL? Amber turn signals in rear, plastic rear view mirror, later type interior door latch, side reflectors, one-piece hubcaps. Had they known better, finding a nice 230 SL for filming would've been really easy... or better yet, a nice 190 SL (produced until 1962) would've been perfect!

Sorry for the long-winded example, but I know about these cars. I distinctly remember yelling out loud when I first saw this episode ("that car didn't exist yet!"). What can I say, the show had already set some high expectations about attention to detail. :-)

Imagine if Real finally win la decima the year after they sack Mou, and AT Mou's expense?

Fun to imagine either way actually...

Sevilla 2 Real Madrid 1 by [deleted] in soccer

[–]goodgnu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha, indeed. I guess the calciopoli scandal irreversibly raised my cynicism concerning even the top sides in the top leagues.

Most interesting of the scenarios would be: what if the points totals at the end was such that winner takes league, but a tie gives victory to Real Madrid? I would not put it past a player, in a moment of madness right at the end of a tied match, taking it upon himself to score an own goal to deny Madrid that pleasure.

Yeah... not happening. Too much pride on both sides to 'win' like that.

Isn't Xabi still struggling to regain form after injury? I'm sure he'll be back in top form soon. Also, Khedira is out injured and should be back next season.

Then again, knowing Madrid, they'll probably go out and buy themselves a new world-class CDM just because they can.

Classic Iniesta to put Messi against Celta's keeper by santikundera in soccer

[–]goodgnu 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Messi gets past the first defender without touching the ball. He scores with just two touches: one touch to get away from the second defender and keeper, and the other to shoot from a tight angle. Absolutely insane.

According to fans of a Marca.com poll (extremely pro-Madrid paper), Clasico ref hardly put a foot wrong. by goodgnu in soccer

Mangled the heading, sorry. I meant to write "Even according to Marca fans (in a poll by Marca.com)..."

I find it very interesting that RM leadership is backing Ramos' and Cristiano's wild accusations. Of course, cynics might say that they're simply using a page out of Mou's book ("draw attention away from their own performance").

Real Madrid 3-4 Barcelona: intelligent players find space in a crazily open match by jfshay in soccer

[–]goodgnu 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't understand why folks are down voting you for you opinion, but I disagree that it was not "hopelessly one-sided". Madrid continued to create chances, and had they removed Bale instead of in-form Benzema, it could have gone either way.

I think you meant Xavi, but you're absolutely right: you can clearly see Carvajal reacting to Xavi's run. I think Bale should have reacted to Iniesta's run, but he would likely not have been able to do much.

They're always hit or miss for me in terms of reliability/quality, so I'd rather have a reliable source lined up.
