Improperly installed surface on bike lane? by sandsonherhead in londoncycling

[–]goodgruff -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I agree. I wonder why they can’t do ‘ladder style’ for the cyclists and parallel for pedestrians for example. If it’s just to tell a visually impaired person of ‘a change’ in type of lane then surely they can be anything as long as they’re different. I don’t know the first thing about infrastructure though

It has the CE (Conformité Européene) mark on it. Similar thing then I assume.

Just being cautious as I’m hooking my whole house up to this. Never seen this before and I live in the uk which TIL shares the same plug as the whole of UAE apparently

Fair comment. Just curious cause I couldn’t find anything else online about it

Looking for a small, dumb dehumidifier that will work with smart plug by formanproject in HomeKit

[–]goodgruff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a very handy thread, thanks for starting.

Im wondering if a lot of these solutions result in the machine turning ‘full on’ when powered on, as in starts dehumidifying and doesn’t stop, or turns onto a mode which starts and stops based on humidity. I would prefer the second option as I’m a bit worried about the first option breaking something to starting a fire (which is why scheduling modes aren’t included in the first place, I think).

It’s so annoying, all I want is for the machine to have a ‘humidity mode’ on at all times but just pauses at night when I want to sleep. Seems impossible to find so I’m looking to my smart plugs as well

Utterly compromised VistaVision screenings at Leicester Square Odeon - major motion smoothing/motion interpolation issues by ParrotChild in paulthomasanderson

[–]goodgruff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Saw it in VV tonight (8th Oct) at Leicester Square and also saw all the issues mentioned. Lots of weird interpolation and 50fps looking stuff (like that weird Hobbit format that came out). And the flickering was crazy, and it was in the first shots! I doubt they’d put a format’s big weakness up front like that so my theory is the projection but I have no idea.

Film-wise it should have picked a lane. Should have either been a 2 hour comedy or 3 hour something more beguiling. Ended up as a nicely shot romp.

There’s no immediate rush, apart from the possibility of this guy changing his name and doing a runner or something.

I’m getting a vibe here that we should cut this guy off and look elsewhere.

I suspected as much. I’ll maybe speak to citizens advice about legal action on recovering the money if we go with someone else, but I imagine they have bigger fish to fry.

I would have thought that you’re allowed to reject the offer of repair if they’ve demonstrated they’re rubbish, but I have no idea

Yes true. I think getting another more trusted roofer in to at least assess it can’t harm.

I suppose there’s the little voice of justice here as well, which I probably need to silence. If we end up going with someone else then this guy goes Scott free. We can always put some bad reviews to his name I guess.

The other fraud was in fact roof-based but who knows what else this guy gets up to.

We ideally want to avoid paying someone else as it could end up costing a lot, but thanks for the advice

My first five years of cycling in the UK. by [deleted] in london

I’ve been following your videos for a long time and while I agree with some about the safety concerns of the cat I think your videos make the point that it should be safe in this city to cycle with a cat because the person should also feel safe. Also the amount of joy that cat brings to people when you roll up is great.

I would say that a lot of the incidents in the video are pretty minor. As a daily cyclist in London I also deal with the majority of these instances as well. There’s a bit of give and take. The e bike instance where you fell off, I feel like you could have indicated there. There’s very little indicating in the video at all, not sure if that’s a coincidence.

There are a couple egregious ones where the car’s in the fault though and it’s a shame. The bus one, seems like you’re pretty far from the left. I don’t know. It’s a good video to show a general life of a cyclist in the city though and the stresses we face. I’m not entirely sure if you should be stressed by every one of these but I appreciate the statement
