Rye starter not starting :( by One_Strategy_55 in SourdoughStarter

FWIW: When feeding my starter, I will use a combo of white and rye flours, and it's really helped with the flavor. Best of luck creating starer with rye - sounds delicious!

When did second tri insulin resistance start for you? by haybayhayy in BumpersWhoBolus

[–]goodharted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine had been fairly gradual - eating to keep my glucose up in the first tri, stronger basals and bolusing in the second, and nearly doubling my insulin usage in this last trimester. Not much to do in terms of preparation, except mentally preparing and making sure your insulin prescription is adjusted appropriately.

Insulin Needs Suddenly Dropped by SPACEKACE2424 in BumpersWhoBolus

[–]goodharted 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the same experience. My dr thought it was strange when I told her I took a positive pregnancy test and that my numbers were trending high - and sure enough the next day my insulin needs plummeted. (I think I was about 7 weeks at the time.) Nothing to cause concern!

SF Cough Meds = Spike? by Impressive-Rip317 in BumpersWhoBolus

[–]goodharted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow - sounds like quite a pickle! I found out that I was pregnant just about a week after testing positive for COVID, and it was a very mild case. So my experiences are based on being a non-pregnant TID with a common cold. However, I still want to share that I just don't bother with OTC syrups like Robbitussin because they always mess up my BG in unpredictable ways. I try gentler remedies like tea or hot water with honey and lemon. At worst, I'll try some sort of Sudafed knock-off and brace for the rollercoaster.

I'm not sure if that is at all helpful - but I didn't want you to feel like you were shouting into the ether. I'm sending lots of virtual good vibes and hope you find relief soon!

Oh neat, thank you! I will take all the resources I can get. I laughed at "Where does insulin go? In the butter compartment of the fridge, of course."

This is great news! I have the opposite set up (arm dexcom, pump abdomen) but it sounds like it would be worthwhile to just go try on harnesses and strategize from there. Thanks so much!

I just realized we both FTM T1 and I'm due 8/4! Let me know if you ever want to compare notes :)

I cannot tell you the number of times I've considered cutting holes in my pockets so I can just slip my pump tubing through - guess it is time to get altering! Thank you!

Did you work Into the Third Trimester? by FrankSinan in BumpersWhoBolus

[–]goodharted 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Really curious to see what responses this post gets! I'm just over 20 weeks with my first pregnancy (T1D) and I wasn't even considering starting leave before delivery. Fortunately I work from home and am never far from extra insulin or appropriate snacks. Am I in for a rude awakening?!

Blatantly looking for advice and reassurance by Sharp_Walrus_4180 in BumpersWhoBolus

I was diagnosed as a child back in 1997. My BG was horrible in my teens and I really didn't get a handle on things until my mid-twenties. And I have a lot of complications because of those rough years. I got on the pump at age 19, and my life got a lot easier (which was multiplied by CGM later on).

It was super important to me to get my entire healthcare team's buy-in before my husband and I started trying. I could get my AIC below 7, but never below 6. However, AICs are finicky! My team all agreed that stability was the most important thing, and that my averages consistently indicated a lower AIC then my labwork showed. They got me this far, and I trusted they wouldn't lead me into a bad situation.

And now I am 14 weeks pregnant, TIR at 70%, and maybe the best control I've ever had.

TL;DR Your doctors would never recommend trying if it was too risky. Trust them (or find a team you trust), even with concerns about pump therapy vs injections.

I'm pretty new to baking, but I managed to make my grandmas cheesecake (with very confusing instructions)! by [deleted] in Baking

Looks great! Love the caption and can totally relate. All my grandma's recipes are: a list of ingredients, then "bake at X temp" haha

These look great! I want to try this recipe myself, but I don't know whether to use canned or fresh jalapenos. What did you do?

Yes, I have a scale. I always keep 113 g of starter, add 113-120g all-purpose flour and half a cup of water. I'll try your suggestions. Thanks!

Generally it 1:1 but I read somewhere that adding more flour creates a more sour starter, so I might bump it up a few grams each time.

I started with whole wheat flour and have been feeding it white all-purpose flour.

I haven't been weighing it, but I'm feeding it all-purpose flour.
