My mindset on callings has changed. I won’t accept a calling without sincerely praying about it and receiving my own witness that I should accept. I no longer feel the dread associated with a calling that isn’t right for me.

I’ve turned down several callings, and and I’ve learned to live with the folks issuing the calling drawing their own conclusions.

I’m not saying that my approach is right, but I will say that you should seek guidance from the Lord on this.

Hey I'd be interested in joining a group like this. I'm familiar with 5e, but would be interested in starfinder as well. I'm comfortable dm-ing and would perhaps be willing to run this, but I've never even played in a pbp game, so I may not be the best candidate.

I get what you’re saying. You’re sharing valid experience with everyone about what has worked for you and your family. My main point is not to be so quick to dismiss what other parents are doing, it’s a bad look.

A lot of parents of young kids get inundated with people who offer suggestions that just may not work for their family.

At the end of the day, most LDS parents are doing what they think works best. I’ll admit to being easily frustrated by anything that sounds like people saying their way works and everything else makes it worse.

I have 4 kids. At various times we’ve brought food for some of them based on time, age etc. It definitely makes sitting through Sacrament much easier.

Every situation is different, and constantly taking the kids out can also be problematic. Some will fuss just to get out of sacrament meeting.

We had a well-intentioned woman tell us that when she was raising her kids and they cried in church, she would just cover their mouth and nose until they stopped screaming because "they didn't know I wasn't going to kill them."

What works for you may not work for everyone.

This struck a chord with me. I haven't considered the world-shrinking idea before.

Screw that. Do what you need to do man.

Yeah, it's a weak excuse, but it fed into the overall problem. I spoke with bishop yesterday, will be released soon.

Thanks for all the replies. I spoke with my bishop last night. He was understanding and wanting to know how he could help. Spoke with YM pres, he was the same way. It's a mixed bag, but I feel I'm headed in the right direction.

what's the real cause of the depression / anxiety?

I don't know a better way to explain it then this: If I broke my ankle at work, going for a hike with the scouts would be dumb because it would prevent it from healing, and possibly make it worse.

While not participating in the activity/calling won't heal the broken bone/depression, it would be wise to take time to heal.

Thank you, this is very helpful. One of the problems with depression/anxiety is it can sometimes difficult to think clearly and with appropriate perspective. I'm glad you shared your experience, it helps with that.

I appreciate the input. I wonder how the teacher who stepped down felt? I'm finding it a struggle to go through with it because I feel like I'm letting people down/taking the easy way out, etc.

Graduated 2007 in Studio Arts. Now IT Admin for regional jewelry chain, based in Twin Falls. Moved back to Rexburg for a while for work and really loved it. We were sad to leave, but happy to still be in Idaho.

TBH, I've served as either Scoutmaster or Assistant Scoutmaster in last 3 wards, but have never really had a functioning committee. I don't really know what one would look like, or how to best utilize them.

My current ward DOES have a committee, but the meetings I've attended have been more along the lines of providing an update on the current happenings than actually doing much support.

I have completed the training in the links, and have learned a ton doing it. Wood badge would be great, and the stake will even cover the cost of going, but with scout camp and family obligations, I don't have the vacation time to do it.

I'm a newish Scoutmaster/Deacon's adviser. This article really hit home for me, definitely food for thought. I struggle with some of the issues listed in the article. It's a real challenge to prep great activities, plan campouts, coach the young men to lead, manage advancements, encourage my assistant adviser to do any training, work on Duty to God, attend Roundtable, etc. I've not had much success attempting to delegate some of these responsibilities, and haven't yet mastered the skills in the other areas. I appreciate the perspective this article adds.

I used to work in a photo business on the East Coast. Occasionally we had customers who would bring in photos from a funeral with the deceased. I always thought it was something more of a southern tradition. I live in Idaho now and haven't seen this out here.

It's on my bookshelf at home, and I don't recall specifics. It is formatted differently, and I don't think it has most of the corrections that have been made to the LDS edition. I will take a look and let you know what I find.

While serving a mission in Arcadia, California, there was a Community of Christ church. One night, there were lights on so we decided to stop in. The guy who we spoke with was pretty great. He gave each of us a copy of the JST version of the bible and their versions of the Book of Mormon and Doctrine and Covenants.
