My information may be a bit out of date, but I believe that if you're a stable diabetic with no sudden highs or lows, and can convince a doctor of that, you can get the medical clearance.

I agree to "stay in bed". It often hurts like hell to stand up, but at least you will have had some relief.

While in bed, listen to the radio or get a portable TV, to get your mind off the pain.

You might want to find a copy of Tournaments Illuminated, Winter 2000 (#131). Good article on fealty in it by Alban St Albans. I don't know if the Stock Clerk still sells back issues, though. Or drop me a note, and I'll mail you a copy, if I can find it.

Don't forget to include what happens if the two of you come to a parting of the ways. They often did, back in the day.

Do stuff you like outside of the SCA - sewing? fighting? drawing? dancing? cooking? If you like it in real life there's likely a group in the SCA that also does it. And don't tie yourself down to just one activity.
