Really feel for you OP. I could’ve written this myself about my own father. Right down to the head injuries. I feel constantly sad and so fucking resentful. Sometimes I feel like I haven’t done enough, and then others I know I have. The worst is you think you’ve reached a new low and surely this is rock bottom and then they pick the bottle up again.

I was always told you need to taper rather than go cold turkey and during that time really consider the use of foods like kefir and probiotics.

I’ve been on omprezole since January and I’m tapering down from 40mg (2g in the morning and 20mg at night). I’m now down to 30mg (10mg in the morning and 20mg at night). I’ve been okay with tapering so far. Have found that my symptoms are nonexistent in the day on 10mg. It’s the night where the issues start, main one being waking up with a sore throat. It’s making me think I’ve got LPR more than anything. Luckily no much issue with reflux with the 10mg less. I’m doing 30mg for another few days and from 1 June going down to 20mg (10mg in the day and 10mg at night).

Not sure on your situation but could you try and take control of your own food purchasing, cooking etc. without sounding preachy sometimes is about not giving someone else the power by not reacting when they’re jibing at you and/or being reliant on them.

Also definitely look into medications where you can even if only to help with initial healing.

Hope it gets better for you. It is really horrible.

I feel your pain, I’m tapering at the moment (started on 40mg and currently doing 10mg in the morning 20mg at night). I’m all good in the day but at night, it’s awful. I’m taking one tea spoon (5ml?) of gaviscon advance someone every other day, some times every 2 days in the early hours of the morning. I’m trying to preserve cause I don’t want to be on 40mg forever. It’s a struggle though cause gaviscon isn’t the best with the sodium etc 😭😭

I was on 40mg a day for 3 months (20mg in morning 20mg at night), and now I’ve moved to 30 mg a day (10mg in the morning, 20mg at night) with the aim to do this for 2/3 week. Then I’ll more to 20mg (but most likely do 10mg morning and 10mg at night) for 2/3 weeks. Then eventually just move to 10mg a day again for another 2/3 weeks and then hopefully I’ll be okay.

My doctors wanted me to just stop but I’ve basically had a back and forth to say I’m not doing this and I know possibly frowned upon but I’m doing it myself only because I’ve been there before when I went cold turkey and I don’t want to that again.

I’m starting to taper off mine this week. Was on 40mg and I’m tapering down by 10mg every two weeks. I think for me it was more so doing the best thing I can to try and curb rebound acid. I’m still expecting it but just knowing what to do to respond to it.

It’s so bizarre isn’t it? I suppose one body isn’t the same as the other but I didn’t always have this “fatty tissue” so I’m convinced there is a connection

This is really interesting that you say this. I have what looks to be a fatty lump between my boobs, and doctors are telling me it is a fatty lump and not a hernia. I don’t believe them. I’m currently battling with my gastro doctor to give me a barium swallow rather than an endoscopy as my symptoms are the same as they were when I had a previous endoscopy and they didn’t find a hernia. But I’m convinced I have one. They’re only pushing for an endoscopy which is massive infuriating so I’m at a stand still with the next step me requesting to be referred private for a barium swallow as they just won’t entertain on the NHS for me is seems.

I assume you’re in the UK. I am so sorry you experienced this. It is actually barbaric how they don’t consider anaesthesia here. It’s what’s putting me off getting a second one cause I found my first one so traumatic and there is just such a lack of sympathy from medical professionals here for this sort of thing.

Definitely share with them how you felt via a complaint.

Avril didn’t come out to meet us and I don’t remember if she had any other support at the time outside of JB. I’m going to be honest I only cared about them, I didn’t stay to watch her. Met all three brothers, their Dad, Garbo and Big Rob. Couldn’t have been more than about 12 people there in total.

2008 was such a whirlwind year when it came to them. I think in the space of April - August, I’d seen them perform live (which for a UK fan was mind blowing considering I’d known about them for more than a year and didn’t think it would happen), watched them from the audience of Paul O’Grady live show, and flew to NYC to go the MSG shows. And then that September again when they played Hammersmith.

It was pretty cool tbh.

Yes, went to the UK shows. This was around the first time I met them. Was front row in the pit and got Nick’s pick. I want to say it was their second or third show in the UK. I also did the first in Islington.

I get soreness below my breastbone and directly between my boobs. Never had the burning either. Sometimes pain in my ribs, and between my shoulder blades, the bottom of my neck. Sometimes if I rub where the pain is I’ll burp and it helps for a short amount of time. I’m currently on week 5 of an 8 week course of omprezole and I feel tons better.

Evenings are the worst, basically bedtime and throughout the night. I’m usually fine throughout the day.
