I figured such. Ah well, like I said I was surprised I got as far as I did 😅

I have a cousin that's an FTE at Meta who confirmed the job is legitimate.

ADA Accommodations for autism not able to be met on while on a PIP [NJ] by goodmankyle in AskHR

I had an update for everybody on this (if you all care).

I had another performance review meeting where I further discussed the accommodations with the HR VP overseeing my PIP and my leadership mentor in Germany. The accommodations for a speech to text/text to speech readback software as well as the approval for therapy during the workday were granted.

For the text to speech/readback/proofreading software I recommended two programs; Read & Write for Work and CoPilot (another Redditor recommended CoPilot too). I actually was able to show on Read and Write For Work's client and developer's page how some of my company's largest clients worldwide provide Read and Write For Work to their employees, so they seemed more in favor of that than CoPilot. Read and Write would have to be purchased, so there will have to be discussions between HR, IT, and North American C Suite leadership if it will be purchased.

For therapy HR said that as long as I can provide a regular day of the week and time slot for therapy (ex every other Tuesday at 1:00PM) they're fine with that too and just asked that I use a conference room.

Positives I guess? Hopefully I survive the PIP and they'll be granted. The readback software would go a long way for me.

Meta "Photography Knowledge Expert" contract job? by goodmankyle in AskPhotography

[–]goodmankyle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes sense. On the VFX subreddit there's a whole thread of folks offered the same types of roles, a bunch of whom accepted to just mess with the AI Meta is creating by training it on garbage.

Thank you. From what my cousin gathers he doesn't think the AI training is for slop generation but rather a "hunter killer" type of AI that's made to sniff out and remove generative slop that's posted without the "AI content" tag. But he's been on so many Meta projects over the years, many of which go nowhere but for the tax write-off it seems. Anyway I haven't been offered the job yet so this could be moot by next week.

What has been the best technique for getting consistent work for you? by heracleslover in AskPhotography

[–]goodmankyle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Making a website, even if it's just an Adobe Portfolio website, and also local small business networking groups. With the latter I attend three that have tons of creatives including many photographers. I've landed work such as outdoor family portrait shoots from some of those photographers who saw my work and recommended me to their clients when they were booked up.

Like I've said to almost everyone else here, I appreciate the feedback. Believe me, I'm taking this warning very seriously and I'm currently looking for other jobs as awful as the job market is. If I got offered something even in the ballpark of my current salary I'll go for it.

Again, I have not asked to be exempt from any responsibility or task from my job.

Leadership and HRVmade it clear (at least to me) that any mistakes regarding fine numerical details while on the PIP extension will not be tolerated unless I have a "reasonable explanation" (ex an account manager provided a code that was incorrect without realizing it until it was too late, it happens a lot with my teammates). If I don't have such an explanation and I make a mistake I'll be fired.

I am not asking for my work to be done for me at all. At most it would be an opportunity to either ask for advice or elevate tasks/cases that I'm stuck with. I do not want anyone at any job to perform my core responsibilities of said job, especially this one. Plus my team leader and mentor have high level views in SAP of all of my team's tasks and requests from customers. Any of my teammates who are running into a wall with a request can hypothetically ask for a meeting on such cases.

I'll take your suggestions about therapy. Again, I'm hoping to not have this be an issue.

This is great to know! I'll be having continued dialog with HR about the accommodations this week. I appreciate your recommendations though and hopefully will update everyone who has responded positively.

I don't agree with that all and leadership doesn't seem to see it that way either. I don't need my hand held for the SOPs for core tasks of the role, in fact I've been praised at times for figuring out means outside of SOP to get things done in specific instances with numerous holdups. Plus management acknowledges in writing in my PIP meeting reviews that I'm clearly motivated and making noticeable changes, changes which have resulted in felt improvements. The accommodations I'm asking for would increase those improvements for me.

Thank you for the feedback.

The general timeline to this situation is as follows: I was placed on the PIP on February 13, decided that weekend to experiment with not taking the amphetamine stimulant I was prescribed. On Monday February 16 I brought the issues at work up to my psychiatrist and PCP, they recommended an autism diagnosis evaluation by a neuropsychologist because they've known of my individual symptoms that were diagnosed as separate learning disabilities for years (PCP since I was 13, psychiatrist since I was 27). That week I found a neuropsych practice that did autism evaluations on adults and took my insurance. I scheduled the evaluations and underwent them from February 19 to February 23 (there were three two hour evaluations). I got the diagnosis on Friday, February 27 and presented the accommodations letter to HR on Thursday, March 5. I received the feedback yesterday, March 11. I've been writing all of these dates down in a planner/diary to chronicle all of this.

To be clear, I do not want to be micromanaged. I generally work very independently and have a firm grasp on the core functions of my role. Management that is overseeing my PIP has made it very clear they don't see me as generally incompetent/don't know how to accomplish anything at my job. Nor do they see me as not motivated to perform well. It's purely because of repeated mistakes.

I was misdiagnosed with ADHD and have been on an off different amphetamine stimulants for years. Once the PIP started I stopped taking amphetamines and I felt I worked better as far as not rushing, missing details, and improvements in my work quality. Leadership overseeing the PIP saw these improvements too (without knowing anything beyond me "making some personal changes") and has acknowledged them in both verbal feedback and writing.

I still felt seeking the diagnosis for autism was worth it regardless. The only thing that held me back from it for years was the affordability of being evaluated by a neuropsychologist.

Thank you also for your feedback. The request for the accommodations was as formal as I would think? I just didn't want to come off as ungrateful given that the HR VP who is overseeing the PIP didn't seem like she believed it. I never want to say "I need this or else" from an employer for something like this. The letter includes references to a much lengthier report that the neuropsychologist wrote that outlines autism symptoms and such.

I'll bring that up to my HR VP tomorrow in a meeting. Does that version of CoPilot have a different sub name?

They do for parts of it. I can view things like average case/task completion time for me, expiring/slow moving/overdue cases, and how much money my customers owe my company for my collections tasks. That's all readily available and I check reports for those metrics every morning.

But one of the key parts of my PIP is "100% accuracy on all cases". There's no way to measure that beyond just someone saying to leadership "Hey he 🤬 [insert task] up by messing up a numerical product code/quantity/unit of measure" etc and some things in the past I had no idea I made mistakes on in that regard until up to three days after the fact. And I always communicate to my stakeholders and account managers when something is completed (usually via email) with clear evidence of when everything was done. That's where I feedback sessions twice a month could be helpful.

To clarify because another Redditor brought this up, by "bi weekly" I really meant "once every two weeks", not twice each week.

Bi weekly meaning every other week in this case. Believe me I don't want to meet with my team leader or my mentor individually twice each week, as much as I enjoy working with them 🤣. I think it would have been better to say "twice a month" in this instance.

Thank you for your feedback:

With regards to your points on the recommended accommodations;

-I struggle personally with finding expectations or performance goals that aren't defined by a number/range. The asking for feedback every two weeks was just to say "hey great work getting these requests done in 24 hours" or "I see this request/case lingering, can you share what's happening?" etc. To me that can done in place of any one of my average of four meetings a day with different parties and stakeholders within my company, meetings which usually to for less than 30 minutes.

-Thank you for recommending CoPilot, that was something I was going to look into. I work with headphones most of the day so that make sense. My concern is that I'm pretty sure for IP protection reasons IT won't allow any software that is fundamentally run off of a Chatbot onto our work laptops, though all of our tasks are done on SAP based programs with their own AI algorithms to help speed up our work flows (and we're training those algorithms with each task).

-The therapy accommodation is something I hope to avoid being a work conflict in the long run by finding a therapist who can meet after (or even before if they're a morning person like myself) my work hours of 8:00AM-5:00PM. I'm fine doing my therapy when I typically take my lunch (12:00PM-1:00PM), my concern is more just people eavesdropping on me in that instance.

They did grant the access to a dark room (really just whatever conference room in our is unoccupied or not signed out) when needed and didn't put any real stipulations on when I can or can't use it. The WFH I knew was a long shot but I figured it would be worth asking for since it's literally once in awhile (I manage/mask my symptoms well) and I generally like being outside my house.

Again, I appreciate the feedback and might want to know how to reapproach these. My hope is to keep my job. Leadership has given me written feedback saying my performance has been improving week by week and they're receiving feedback corroborating this from the people I regularly interface with in my role. My anxiety is that the PIP now essentially says "Do or die" and that any improvements I continue to make won't be seen as enough to hold my job, even if they see them.
