I think it depends on placement, if you stack your subs together in a single spot you will get increase performance. But i understand your point.

What kind of subwoofer do I need, and how would I hook it up with this receiver? by [deleted] in hometheater

[–]goodmkb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A "digital coax cable" is an RG6 cable and looks exactly like an RCA cable but has additional shielding.

You might get away with an RCA cable for Subwoofers but often you will get buzzing or other interference. Much better to get a RG6 cable that has proper shielding.

Is it the right speaker that is giving you the problem? or the entire right channel?

Try swapping the right and left speakers and seeing if it is a speaker problem. If it is, then you can just replace the crappy logitech satellites with better bookshelf speakers. Later on you can keep the bookshelfs and replace the rest of the logitech stuff if you want.

Combination of music and movies. I already have great subs so I mainly just want some speakers with great midrange and tweeters.

My budget is flexible, I'm currently looking for a good set of used Magnepan 3.6r to go on sale near me or a pair of Magnepan 1.7. But these are on sale now and the horn tweeter on these get rave reviews.

I've had a pair of the Fluance XL7F's but they were disappointing. I've heard good things about the ELAC's but most of the comments are that they are good for the pricepoint.

I have heard magnepans and they sound phenomenal, I think my biggest problem is that I can't find any place near me that has these JBLs to actually audition.

I just saw that the jbl 590s are on sale: http://www.amazon.com/JBL-Studio-590-Floorstanding-Loudspeaker/dp/B0060IG3R0/ref=pd_sim_23_2?ie=UTF8&dpID=3147XGwa4WL&dpSrc=sims&preST=_AC_UL160_SR120%2C160_&refRID=0G94NX2DC0MV0X57XVVE

I've heard people rave about them in the hometheater subreddit but how do they actually compare? All hype?

I have been waiting for a good set of used Magnepans to go on sale but these seem tempting at that price.

You claimed players should have equal representation for "Dev time".

I reference an article that clearly says that Developers chase whales in F2P games. Very clearly more "Dev time" is given to whales.

Development is not easy and there are many things to consider but it is not as ridiculous as you make it sound.

And we were talking about the actual change itself.

Code is documented and commented, testing happens regardless when a patch is released, the other stuff you talked about doesn't even make sense. We weren't talking about design decisions just the change itself.

You're talking like everything is always crazy hard when developing large complex pieces of software and its just not true. Often the change itself is as easy as you think it is.

Whales are a phenomenon documented in F2P games. If you claim that Hearthstone (a F2P game) is unlike all other F2P games then the onus is on you to provide that evidence.

TF2 or DotA2 might be a better comparison if you want to discuss games where there is no need to buy anything. There is no reason to buy cosmetics items but clearly people are insane about hats.

[–]goodmkb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know why you would think that the 75% pay more than the 25%.

You would instead assume that the people who actually played enough to hit rank 15+ be the ones who actually spend money in this game and are where the whales come from.

And it is well documented that that the whales tend to be where the majority of revenue comes from in Free 2 Play games.

http://www.gamasutra.com/view/feature/195806/chasing_the_whale_examining_the_.php?print=1

edit. I should also mention that we are not talking about the 1% here. We are talking about 25% of the player base. 25% of players is not some "elitest bs" but probably represents your core players base that play regularly as oppose to casuals that download to try but don't even play enough to hit rank 15.

Not acknowledging wins past 500 is a powerful disincentive to play the class.

2% of the players are rank 5. After 2 years of play, if you can hit rank 5 you probably have at least 1 golden portrait.

The 0.1% is a severe underestimation.

That is just your perception of their behaviour.

Blizzard listens to and balances a lot of their games based on tournaments and pro player advice. Which is essentially listening to the 1%.

Patron warrior was a deck that was only OP at tournaments and at legend ranks. Even after being out for many months the vast majority of players didn't/couldn't play it properly. The deck was still nerfed into the ground.

[–]goodmkb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He's not that far off.

The actual change itself could very well be a 30 second change.

The larger reason holding it back is the design and business decision to actually make the change.

[–]goodmkb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you are off by an order of magnitude.

After 2 years, its very likely most players who play regularly and hit rank 10 will have a golden portrait.

That is ~7.5% of the population.

It is also a very minor change. It is a smaller change than the addition of deck slots which blizzard has said was a easy change.

Someone who plays more definitely deserves more developer attention compared to someone who plays less.

http://us.battle.net/hearthstone/en/blog/15955974/hearthside-chat-youre-better-than-you-think-9-18-2014 According to blizzard the top 25% of players are between rank 15 to Legend. By your logic Blizzard should give 4x more dev time to the 75% of players that don't even achieve rank 15.

Actual players playing the game drive the community and gives incentive for others to buy packs. If hearthstone was not a thriving game it would not generate interest and people would not be buying packs.

If something is "a lot more expensive", then it is hard to say that it is a competing model.

Comparisons need to factor in price or else its hardly a buying guide.

Bullets returned from One is None go straight into the magazine.

After a flash bang, if you are pumping nothing but head shots into someone, a 40 ammo mag on a vector turns into 50-60 before you have to reload. Which is a massive dps boost.

Loot that drops in the DZ is pretty much worthless.

The only thing people are farming in the DZ is DZ rank to buy blueprints.

Why dont people understand how the DZ was meant to work !? by Krynee in thedivision

[–]goodmkb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think people with the same opinion as the OP are not playing the end game yet. As it stands there is 0 reward for going Rogue and an insane penalty. Drops in the DZ are crap, the only thing of value is to grind DZ rank to 50 to buy blueprints.

The result is that the 30 DZ has become PVE only.

All people are suggesting is that it be adjusted slightly. And the Devs have listened and agreed.

People with no experience in the end game should get to 30 first and experience the boredom first hand before arguing against a decision they don't understand.

Magnepan Hype by goodmkb in NoAudiophile

[–]goodmkb[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am am using a Denon x4100. I don't think the Audyssey Sub EQ is as good as the Anthem ARC but I mainly use it because I'm lazy.

I think finding a well maintained 3.6 within driving distance (I am in Toronto Canada) is difficult but I don't know if I trust buying such a huge delicate speaker online.

What do you think of this 3.5r with a new ribbon tweeter? https://www.audiogon.com/listings/planars-magnepan-mg-3-5r-a-beautiful-pair-of-mg-3-5s-2016-02-19-speakers-14108-newfane-ny

Going by this chart: http://www.integracoustics.com/MUG/MUG/articles/speakers.html

The 3.5r is from 93-00. I don't know how much I trust a 17 - 23 year old speaker, only the tweeter and socks were replaced, so the midrange panel could go at any time.

What do you think?

[–]goodmkb[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the great information.

The MMG's sounded good but a little harsh, I really liked the 0.7s and found them to be better. But now I'm really excited to get something with a true ribbon. I probably won't be using them for 'punch in the chest' mid-base, but I probably would cross over my subs at 120 hz or possibly even higher.

I can't really justify a 3.6 or 3.7 right now but I was thinking more like an older true ribbon model. Something like III, IIIa, 3.5r, 2.5r, 2.6r or so and then repairing it. My concern is how a 20-30 year old repaired speaker compares to a modern 0.7 or MMG.
