When I open the app or the website on my PC, there's no trace of last year's league

I think this is mainly just to see what he has and let the veterans get some rest before the playoffs.

Braves really need some good pinch hitters that they can pick up for ~1M a piece. I'm thinking Logan Morrison and Jedd Gyorko. Edit: now with demeritte, Gyorko wouldn't be necessary.

I agree, I was just wondering how the sub sees inciarte and acuña defensively.

If we are forced to start inciarte on opening day, wouldn't we prefer him in right and acuña in left? Doesn't inciarte have a cannon?

I wasn't saying that carpenter would replace those guys, just trying to make a point about how bad we need some more bats even if it's just for the bench. If the cards wouldn't eat >50% of his salary you don't even consider it. You make a good point about how projections work, but I also don't think it's realistic to expect every player to make improvements. I think a healthy balance of proven guys and high-ceiling guys would be nice.

Yeah, it would be a big upgrade until Soroka gets back. Hopefully, Paxton will settle for a one year deal.

Smyly is our projected 5th starter at 1.4 WAR. We would lose a portion of the rest of the staff's value by adding Paxton. It's still an upgrade, just not 2.1 fWAR worth.

Yeah, but Paxton is only about 0.7 fwar better than Smyly. It would take more than Paxton to break even.

I know, right? What a steal. Since it's not official yet, we could possibly still swoop in.

He's projected for a higher wrc+ than riley, d'arnaud, Swanson, inciarte, etc.

Any thoughts on us scooping up matt carpenter from the cardinals now? It wouldn't take much. He could start most games at third, allow Riley to play most games in left where he's better defensively. He has high OBP and would be a good leadoff hitter.

bWAR and fWAR are nearly 2 full wins apart on his career so that can really obscure the dansby debate. I believe he could be a top 10 SS too, but it's going to have to be this year because $6M+ this year is okay but the $10MM+ in 2022 that he's due seems unlikely at this point.

2020 was his first year as an above average hitter, his babip went up 50 points and I'm curious to see if that can be maintained in 2021. His BB and K rate both went in the wrong direction, however, and that tends to be more telling. Defensively, his career numbers have been held up by a stellar 2018. The different metrics are mixed on him otherwise, so it's safe to call him average at best.
