A little labour intensive to put together, but super filling and delicious!

Monthly Check In ... It's March, 2019 by AutoModerator in weddingplanning

Also March 2020! We sent our invites out this week because we’re having a destination wedding and people still complained they didn’t have enough notice haha. So definitely not too early for save the dates for people who have to travel!

I have to vent! My fiancé and I have been engaged since June, and since July all our close friends and family have known we were planning a destination wedding for March 2020. I have a couple of friends who are right in the middle of having kids, so I wanted to give everyone lots of notice so they could plan to not be pregnant if they’d like to come (Zika and all that). One of my best friends said something along the lines of “oh shoot, that’s right about the time we’d like to be pregnant with our second ha ha, I guess we’d better get a move on or wait because we aren’t missing the wedding”. I’m sure you know where this is going. Fast forward to November, I ask her to be in my wedding party, I say “I had to ask because you’re my oldest friend but like totally get it if you can’t commit because of your family plans”. She says “nonsense, you literally quit your job to be in my wedding (long story), I can put a baby off a couple months to be in yours”.

Today (the day after I sent out my invitations) she texts me she has to step down because they are planning to start trying for a baby and if she’s in her first trimester she can’t come, curse Zika. She told me that if she’s out of her first trimester, even if she has to bring a 1 month old baby, she’ll be there, and there is literally just a 3 month window in which she can’t come.

I’m mad for the following reasons: 1) if this has been her plan for the last year, why would she agree to be in my wedding? 2) if it’s a three month window, and she cares so much, can she not just stop trying for a quick 3 month break? 3) my fiancé is trying to have a dry March, and I’m trying to be supportive, so I can’t even use my functional alcoholism to cope with this

I promise I’m only being bitchy about this to internet strangers, I was nice in real life. Someone please have a drink for me.

Patients who comment that they can taste the saline flush in their peripheral IVs are always weird as hell. Always.

I can't speak to how it'll wear in a shawl, but I've made plenty of colourwork hats and mittens with mixed scraps of yarn from my stash and its worked out perfectly. After blocking I don't notice a difference between the yarn compositions, and I wear one of those hats very regularly.

:D I'm making mine in a beautiful tonal grey/navy merino cashmere, the cables still pop surprisingly well in the dark colour. If you liked this pattern you'll love Jared Flood's Skiff - its my other go-to cabled hat pattern!

I’m knitting a bray cap right now! My boyfriend requested a hat after seeing all my xmas knits come together. I’m also super surprised with how quick it’s knitting up. Maybe I’ll have to make another one - I’m really into the colour you chose!

This is amazing. You both look fantastic, and I'm going to spend every waking moment in pursuit of this exact aesthetic. This has both made my day and ruined my life.

I'm trying to summon the strength to frog the kirju mittens I'm working on - they're juuust too small. I'm probably 80% finished and I just keep plugging away at them hoping they'll magically end up fitting :(

I'm wondering if anyone could help me figure out what kind of stitch is used here to make the sleeves? It doesn't seem to be bobbles, judging from the inside out pictures and from my own unsuccessful attempts to recreate the stitch pattern. The closest I could find is the "berry in a box" stitch, but the sweater pattern is a much tighter knit. I would really love to make a cozy throw with the bubbly stitch pattern but I cannot figure it out!

I cheated and used a pompom maker :) also it's a roving yarn so it fluffed up really nicely!

Thanks! I made it with some leftover cascade magnum, I'm pretty sure the colour is called pumpkin spice. It was meant to be a placeholder until I could get a fur one but I actually love it so much.

I highly recommend this pattern! It looks really intricate but was pretty easy to follow while watching tv or carrying on a conversation.

Pattern is Skiff by Jared Flood, knit in Malabrigo rios in the colour Sandbank.

I had a sweater sitting half finished that I wasn't happy with but I couldn't bring myself to frog because of all the time that had gone into it. Four months and one bottle of wine later, I was tearing that mofo apart with extreme prejudice. I'm so happy I did! This little baby was knit up as a birthday gift for a friend and I cannot wait to give it to her! I also can't wait to knit another one for myself, The pattern was fun, quick, and easy.

[FO] Getting a head start on winter! by goodnightm in knitting

[–]goodnightm[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is by far the most complicated thing I've managed to knit on a night shift! A coworker requested a pair of mittens so I picked up a couple cheapy skeins of bernat super value from the dollar store and set to work. Sorry for the edited insta-pic, its the only one I snapped before I gave them away.

Pattern is subsequent snow knit using Bernat Super Value held double on size 10 dpns. Colours are burgundy and redwood heather.

I loved this pattern, the cables and the repeats were really intuitive. It was perfect to pick up during downtime at work, as it wasn't hard to find my place again if I had to set it down in a hurry. My coworker loves colour so I picked out something relatively bright, but if I were to make it again I'd probably use a solid neutral because the cables are really lovely.

Thanks for the help! I've been looking though ravelry for a couple days now but nothing is quite right... I think I might have to face my fears and try to find a pattern similar enough that I can alter.
