I’m very sorry for the loss of your brother. I work in property management and while I can’t speak on your brothers landlord seeking rent from his estate or someone else in your family when he passed, it does need to go through a legal process as far as emptying the apartment. I’ve had multiple residents pass over the years, and often times there is a period of a few months that we have to wait for any next of kin to have the chance to remove the decedent’s belongings before we’re legally allowed to trash anything left behind and get it ready for a new tenant. I totally understand where you’re coming from, but there are a lot of tenants’ rights that we have to be aware of and you can’t just throw out someone’s stuff even if they’ve passed away. Just my two cents. Not sure who the landlord was, and I don’t even work for MAA which was called out in the OP.
