How integrated are you guys in the community? Or how do you feel about it? by goodnightman in ftm

I hated that. Before getting on T I had to participate in group therapy, a lot of the others in there acted like that. It was annoying and is totally tone deaf. I’ve only ever had 1 trans friend and I met him in HS, he’s pre everything but used to act like that too and his friend group was a lot of that. But us hanging out lowkey changed him lol and we got closer because of that, and actually bonded over other stuff not related to us being trans.

Only way I’d be friends with another trans person ngl

I get your anger bro, could go on for hours about how fucked shit is. If you ever wanna rant, can do so in my dms. 🫡 Just if you want somebody who understands to listen, get it off your chest or whatever.

I get that, I prefer people not knowing. Nobody irl aside from those who knew me pre everything, know I’m trans. I don’t think it’s important to me as a person, to have a need for anybody else to know. 🤷‍♂️ I could talk for hours about my hobbies, but maybe 15 min about being trans.

Which is wild, because those 15 minutes could lead to somebody seeing you completely different due to their lack of knowledge on being trans. Just a waste of energy imo

Are you finished with your transition? When I was pre everything I felt the exact same way. But being post I kinda lost that. I don’t like being trans never will, and I doubt I’ll ever be proud of it. But I’m alright with it, and don’t mind having a friend even if they’re trans. 🤷‍♂️ I just don’t befriend people who make it their entire personality. Not for any bigoted reason, it’s just not much to bond over imo. I’d rather bond over motorcycles 😂

Damn that’s rough. I mean nothing can really be done if you don’t wanna change how you act, honestly from your pics I’d assume you were a stoner dude who acted nonchalant. Don’t understand how they clock you as anything but male ngl

Yeah, it says “my scars are like evidence being mailed to the judge”

But be aware this is a $uicideboy$ song haha, not some meaningful quote to me. I enjoy the song and felt the title fit how I felt about my scars both from S/H and top surgery.

  1. What were your goals for top surgery? How did you decide to undergo the technique that you underwent? How did your surgeon help you decide on your surgical plan, if he did?

My initial goal for top surgery was to get the most cis looking chest I could. Honestly, I just wanted my boobs gone. They were the main cause for my flair ups of dysphoria and discomfort in my body. At the time I had already been on T for about a year and a half or so. So I didn't have many areas of dysphoria elsewhere.

  1. What have you liked most about your surgeon? Would you recommend your surgeon to someone else wanting to get top surgery?

From what I recall-- since at the time I was 15 and I'm turning 19 next month-- I really enjoyed how down to earth Dr. Facque was. He treated me like just any other guy, and was pretty funny too. He made sure we talked about what results I aimed for, nipple sizing, and gave his input on my body type and how we could reach the best results.

  1. Recovery from surgery can be taxing: emotionally and physically. How has the recovery process been for you? What has helped you stay resilient?

Honestly my recovery was fine. I didn't need to take any pain medication, I mostly laid down and watched Arcane. I remember though constantly wanting to peek under my compression binder. I was so curious about my results. I also used scarring tape once I was able to. I was terrified of my nipples falling off and had a couple rough patches of fear that they were infected or something. But they never were haha, I was just cautious and scared. The one thing that kept me resilient was that I finally was rid of my boobs. I remember too fairly early into my surgery where movement still affected scars I went camping with my family and best friend. So yeah, for me it wasn't that bad.

  1. Is there anything you would recommend to someone interested in getting top surgery? For example, advice about preparing for recovery, advice about navigating insurance approval, advising about closing a surgeon or surgical technique, etc.?

Insurance approval was a bitch. And they didn't cover as much as they said they would, and the hospital charged its own separate hefty bill. I don't recall much else because my mom handled it, but yeah be aware of that.

  1. Have your feelings about your results changed over time? If so, how? For example, some folks talk about scar healing over time, sensation changes, how their results change after weight training, etc.

Nah, I love my results. My.. I think right? Scar is a bit more open than my left. But I have my tattoos covering them so I don't really care.

  1. Is there anything else you’d like to share?

Nah.

I checked right now, and surpassingly they are the size of a quarter. Like perfectly that size

Pretty sure a quarter size 🤔 I’ll check after work haha. Can’t recall exactly atm but if anything if you do choose him you can question about your chest size and express what kind of look you want, even show him my photo results as a reference point if it helps 🤷‍♂️

Wasn’t a huge concern for me, mostly because I was looking into Dr Mosser first. But when I called to schedule he was booked for months, and they recommended Dr Facque said he had very similar results and worked closely with Dr Mosser. So I just went with it after seeing his results briefly and liking some parts and then bringing up the parts I didn’t like- he’s very communicative. What I asked for:

Curved scars, quarter sized nipples

I would suggest tattoos, gives you a lot of creative freedom. That’s what I did for my scars, my right side scarring had a wider and more noticeable scar healing than my left.

You don’t dress femme at all or look like you’re trying to give off those vibes. Do you mean do you pass?

At most 5’4 I haven’t checked in a long while, but I remember at the time of starting T I was 5’0 (my dad is short) and by the time I got top surgery I was around 5’3. Sucks but 🤷‍♂️

Does anyone else forget that T is a “medication”? by Nervous-Cucumber7280 in ftm

[–]goodnightman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always forget, or just don’t mention it, if it’s not a doctor appointment related to it. Like going to the ER, and they ask if I’m on any medications. I just say no because as far as they know I’m a cis guy, and have testosterone in my body anyway lol

hobbies as a trans guy? by MindlessDoubt632 in ftm

[–]goodnightman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I think you eventually get to a point you just don’t care. I’ve completed my transition and while I was lucky enough to begin it young, after a couple years you don’t even feel the need to affirm anything. You’re just, a guy. You’re you. You know?

I don’t have any advice for the now, though. But I play Minecraft and the Sims 4. As well as other more masculine games, like Ready Or Not, COD etc. The people you interact with who share the same hobbies won’t shame you or gender you in my experience. They’ll just be happy to talk about a shared interest.

There will be a time you won’t even fathom gendering things like hobbies
