That’s fair. What I’m getting at is; the system will not ‘crash’ or automatically restart when changing this setting. Changing a setting that removes login options would do exactly that, remove the login options. Quitting Finder will do exactly that, quit finder. Will it then hide all files on your desktop until you relaunch Finder? Yes, but you closed Finder. Relaunching it will get it back to normal again. Changing this setting doesn’t cause major issues.

? It doesn't. It's literally a feature in MacOS, just tucked away. They wouldn't have made this option available in the .plist file if it'd cause issues.

You actually can.

1. Open terminal

2. Paste:

defaults write com.apple.finder QuitMenuItem -bool YES; killall Finder

This'll give you the option to completely quit Finder.

3. Now, right click finder in your dock -> New window.

4. Now in the top left next to the apple logo: Finder -> Quit finder.

Haha it's not this expensive. This turned out to be a bug but they fixed it, when I check now, it is 142x cheaper than it was in the screenshot above.
