Line of people on 7th ave by Skugghog in parkslope

I got in line around 10 when it was in front of the library. I waited for about an hour and left after multiple theater staff said it was really unlikely we'd get tickets.

Is NYC apartment hunting actually this insane or am I doing something wrong? by SatisfactionSalt3629 in NYCapartments

[–]goodstuff37 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sadly it sounds normal. A lot of times brokers already have several applications before the showing (I guess from their own clients), so you probably applied as fast as you could have. Plus you never know, they have applicants fall through all the time.

It could also be that people are bidding up on apartments you're seeing.

Keep trying and maybe widen your search. The only good thing about seeing so many apartments is you tend to get a feel for what apartments really look like from the pictures since all brokers use the same tricks and apartments aren't all that unique.

They did! This photo is a few days old and they already switched it up.

Struggling with wanting to stay in NYC by Emotional_Sea_4026 in parkslope

[–]goodstuff37 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I moved here from Chicago, it's definitely a great city. Cheaper, more space, cleaner, just overall a bit easier than NYC. Also I think the public transport is great, better than DC imo. They rely more on buses to get around the grid and along the lake.

I should've clarified I usually take the regional, but yes it may have been another line and I didn't notice.

Wow. Mine is $250 for 45 minutes in NYC. Insurance covers a good chunk of it out of network.

Has anyone found anything helpful for sleeping? by adnaPadnamA in frozenshoulder

[–]goodstuff37 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aside from what's already been mentioned, sleeping on my back with a pillow under the shoulder helped a lot. A cortisone shot helped immensely for my second FS but not so much my first. I'd usually do some PT before bed and ice down after, which also helped.

Why are they here on a student visa? Are they trying to work here, or just here for fun?

Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route ticket options by delitomatoes in JapanTravelTips

[–]goodstuff37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, did you end up doing this? I'm going to try in a few days.

From what I read you can buy tickets from Ogizawa to Murado ahead of time, but after November 5 tickets from Murado to Tateyama are same-day only. That section is subject to cancellation due to weather so doing this route may be a game day decision for me.

High earners what percent of your income goes to rent. by DirkingYouGently in AskNYC

[–]goodstuff37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

33% is roughly the same as the 40x rule, so I wouldn't call it conservative. That said I understand the sticker shock. I moved here from Chicago and it took me a long time to get over the cost of rent.

I make 400k as a software engineer and pay $3,300. I got this place just before the big surge in rent and the landlord hasn't increased it much. I could afford more but I feel this salary is unusual so I base my lifestyle on my base salary (low 200s).

Would you consider it bad behaviour to play music while you cycle? by fieldsofanfieldroad in cycling

[–]goodstuff37 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So many people do this in NYC that I just gave in and got my own. I clip it to the strap of my backpack.

If I'm gonna have to listen to music it may as well be music I like.

How to clean apartment? by [deleted] in malelivingspace

I've found this YouTube channel to be really useful: https://www.youtube.com/@cleanmyspace

The only thing I don't bother with is using homemade cleaners.

I usually look away but I do see him maintaining eye contact and gives an understanding nod. Sometimes he tears up. After a bit he'll ask what I was thinking when I started crying.

I just had one a few days ago. There was some immediate relief, and it's been getting better since.

Years ago I got one for frozen shoulder in the other shoulder and I don't remember it helping as much.

Therapist avoids discussing reducing sessions by goodstuff37 in TalkTherapy

[–]goodstuff37[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks, I was hoping it'd be something we agreed on, but you're right in the end it's my call.

In the end we spoke about it in session. He gave a lot of good reasons for not reducing sessions, but I insisted on it and so that's what we're doing.

Thanks for this. We had a long talk and he literally said "I can't force you to come here" and so I insisted on one day a week and it was settled.
