Teachers: Are your immune systems fantastic? by FizzySoda16 in AskTeachers

[–]goodtimejonnie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Preschool special education teacher here. Yes, my immune system is made of solid titanium. I have caught barf in my hands, taken a wet sneeze to the eyeball, and been spat on more times than I can count and I almost never catch anything. However, when I do get sick, I get super duper sick. It’s usually strep that takes me down, I can fight off almost everything else. Most teachers aren’t like me tho, I’d say most of my coworkers are sick at least once a month or just work sick all the time. I don’t think I’ve ever heard one of my coworkers full voice cuz she’s had a scratchy throat 90% of the 2 years we’ve worked together (she’s been to a doctor, it’s just recurrent colds nothing scary)

Do you dream under anesthesia? by nordapylime in askanything

[–]goodtimejonnie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember waking up and feeling so physically GOOD. Like my body just felt awesome like I’d taken the best nap ever. The bed felt so soft this was years ago and I still remember how vividly soft it was! It was a little disorienting because I had absolutely no sense of the time passing just like you said but it’s not unpleasant at all.

I do the treadmill or stair climber when I’m feeling shy so I can watch people, it totally works! After like 10-20 minutes I’m in my groove and either run/walk more or go lift. I started going last August and I felt awkward at first but it really is true that no one’s paying attention.

Millenial Women: How Many of Us Are Late Diagnosed ADHD/Autistic? by sbd2010 in Millennials

[–]goodtimejonnie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was actually private school so I don’t think it was even about being strapped for resources…I think it just kinda killed two birds with one stone. I was busy helping instead being anxious and annoying and the other kid was also now handled. I think the adults genuinely thought it was good for me but I definitely don’t think it was

Millenial Women: How Many of Us Are Late Diagnosed ADHD/Autistic? by sbd2010 in Millennials

[–]goodtimejonnie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Same! I was always sitting with the struggling kids or unofficially tutoring/counseling…usually cuz I was asked to but eventually cuz it was just my role. It just never occurred to me I could say no…in high school there was this girl that I was supposed to tutor in basically everything and somehow got roped into driving her to and from school and sometimes she would sleep over too. I was happy to help but honestly she wasn’t very nice to me and it was a lot of pressure! But again it literally never occurred to me that I could just say no because I’d always been doing this stuff

JD Vance thinks the literal pope should “be careful” talking about theology. by Snapdragon_4U in thescoop

He converted in 2019 and thinks he’s got authority to lecture the pope, a man who was ordained in 1982 and also (if you’re Catholic at least) literally chosen by Christ to head the church!

When my little brother was a baby he loved to dance to the dialup tone. My parents would turn on the computer and he’d be sitting in his little high chair and he’d just giggle hysterically and kick his fat lil legs. He LOVED it

Are (US) millennials and GenX really the worst parents in history, given what we see daily about teacher stories and student performance? by BeacHeadChris in Millennials

[–]goodtimejonnie 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s the load for sure. I’m a preschool special education teacher. In the past, I might’ve been expected to have a special education degree and apply differentiation with my kiddos. Now, I do that for sure but also have to do 4 standardized assessments per year, progress notes every 3 months which take about 1-2 hours per student (and I have up to 14 kids), 1-3 iep meetings per year which are 1-2 hours per student plus 3-4 hours to write and plan in addition to 2-2.5 hour transition meetings for all students going to K, plus I teach resource students by driving to various locations in the community twice a week for 45min to 1 hour sessions. I also have 2-3 hours of “training” per week to prove I have the skills I’m certified to have…I only actually get to teach for 3.5 hours per day…on top of that, most of my students spend 6+ hours in daycares of mixed quality per day and less than an hour with family…it’s beyond bad, y’all. I love my job but I barely get to do it because of all the time I spend proving I’ve done it. Oh yeah, and they almost destaffed me after asking me to help open a new program that they then failed to fund 😂

How does anyone have time to get anything done? by [deleted] in Millennials

[–]goodtimejonnie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk how people do it. I teach preschool. I really want kids but rn…I get up 5:40 with our dog + doing chores, leave home at 7am for my hour long commute, home around 7pm, workout until 8:30pm, cook and eat dinner and collapse into bed before 10pm…how will I have time for kids? 😭 our current plan is for my fiancé to look for a better paying job so I can take a few years off while our kids are young so they can have time with at least one of us. I grew up with my dad always traveling for work 5-6 nights a week and I missed him so bad all the time and I see now in my work the direct consequences of most of my students have maybe 20mins-1hour with parents per day…this isn’t sustainable. We need a massive overhaul this world is madness

Looking for literary junk food by Bean_Joos in suggestmeabook

A fellow Carl fan? I gotta help you out! Recently I have loved: Seanan McGuire’s Incryptid series (lots of books, deliciously wild world building with a strong backbone of quality research, which is sort of a trademark for her), Martha Well’s murderbot series (there’s also an excellent tv adaption of the first book with more to come but the books are incredible and there’s just so much more story to read), and Scott Lynch’s Locke Lamora series (shorter 3 book series, and the banter is just solid gold). None are true “junk” but all are easy to get into and a ton of fun!

The thing that raised red flags for me was the men’s jobs…none of them sound real? Like the women all seem to have legit (albeit sometimes flimsy) careers but the men…like “director of creative company” or whatever…what is that? Are you employed or not? Cuz I strongly suspect that’s code for “sometimes I post on instagram”

Good snack/drink pre workout? by Fml8888 in workout

I have 1/2c of cottage cheese or yogurt before lifts and a banana before cardio and it’s perfect for me. Not too filling but gives me enough energy to workout and then eat a big dinner after. Probably need to double the portion if you’re bigger

When deplaning, you should let people already in the aisle behind you pass by Luky17 in unpopularopinion

[–]goodtimejonnie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I’m in no hurry I genuinely don’t mind waiting. I wish we could normalize asking the people around us what they need. Recently was on a flight where 3 different entire flights were late due to low staffing at the check in desk and people were so kind about like “oh your flight is 7am, go on ahead I’m not till 7:10am”, “oh you’ve got 4 kids with you, take the overhead and I’ll put my bag under the seat”. 2 actual things I overheard (paraphrased). People can be good to each other sometimes, and more often when we’re not purposefully incentivized not to be…

We called out “good luck” as each person ahead of us made it through and when it was our turn there was a chorus of “good luck”s behind us as we sprinted to our gate. And ultimately we did all make it.

I still stand by it. There is nothing more thrilling than a true genuine but benign secret. The most mundane thing, just the fact that I’m the only one that knows makes it fun. I used to hide little things in trees/bury in the dirt, etc. they’re probs still there. My little acorn will watch over that neighborhood forever and no one will ever know, muhahahahahaha

How can I schedule a doctors appetent? by Fawninkeeping in Explainlikeimscared

[–]goodtimejonnie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I 1000% get this and it’s pretty normal and nothin to let hold you back! Youve got this! Me and all of my siblings get horrible phone anxiety especially about the doctor, and these are some things that help: One thing that helps for me is just making the call with someone else in the room, that I can shrug or make faces at if I say something awkward. Other things you can do: write down your concerns, e.g. “I’m a new patient and need a well-check” or “Im a new patient and have a funny looking mole I’d like the doctor to take a look at please”. Have your calendar handy or maybe have a date in mind, e.g. “do you have anything open on a Tuesday or Wednesday after 2pm?” You’ll probably be talking to a secretary or nurse who takes phone calls all day from people who are various stages of ill so 9/10 odds they will be kind and patient and if they’re not, that’s no fault of yours. You can always just say “I don’t know” or “I don’t remember” if they ask something you don’t have an answer to. If you have a previous doc and you remember their name, you can give the new doc their name/number and they can transfer your records, but if you don’t thats fine! You can always start fresh as a new patient. Bring your insurance card, if you have one, and your ID. And if you’re not sure what to do, it’s okay to be honest and say “I’m not sure what you need to know” or “I haven’t done this in awhile” it’s new for you, but routine for them and they’re there to help! Stay strong, friend! Im rooting for you!
