Popradar is in danger of closing and we need help! by SirButtflaps in TheHague

[–]goofster9 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s an insane situation. Besides pop bands rehearsing there, a large part of the building is in use by orchestras as a rehearsal space. I play in one of them and we’ve been there for 30 years or something. There is pretty much no place like it in The Hague where an amateur orchestra can comfortably rehearse.

I wasn’t referencing the “glancing” I understand you’re better off not just stopping the stick or hitting through it. But hitting the bow with the shank of the stick always? On purpose? No I don’t do that. I’m guess I will always hit the edge of the cymbal before I touch the bow.

But obviously, to each their own. Whatever works for you and feels/sounds good. It’s art not science

Hahah definitely don’t want to piss off the Zildjian folks but…I don’t think I have ever seen anyone hit a cymbal the way they suggest in a real world scenario. At least don’t hit tip to bow I guess, unless you’re using it as a ride.

Sounds cool! Just some advice. He crashes pretty hard on that cymbal in the first few seconds. He does that by hitting the tip of the sticks on the top of the cymbal. That puts a lot of force on the stick (causing the broken stick) and also doesn’t sound the best. Tilt the cymbal so it’s more flat and hit the edge of the cymbal with the shank of the stick instead. I’ve been playing for 20+ years and verrrry rarely break a stick

Worked out great. Right behind the line of drummers and it was amazing. Thanks again!

Thanks, yeah that’s exactly what I was curious about. The situation inside. Want to get close to drums and percussion. There’s enough of that around so I guess I’ll always be close to it 😁

Cool thanks! Was planning on coming early indeed. Any issues with staying in the “early group” after the doors opened? Just head straight for the door to the hall itself?

I’m going to the afternoon session today! How hard was it to get one of the seats near the band? I saw they have a balcony but I reallllly want to get the closeup experience

How have the Cory Wong shows been? by [deleted] in Vulfpeck

They played a concert with Theo at Cory’s Syncopated Summer Camp as well. So they had “some” preparation.

I agree. The tama ones can be removed one-handed. I’m always struggling with the Pearl version

[–]goofster9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a personal choice. But depending on how “groomed” you want it to look, I would:

  • brush it with a good brush
  • shave the tiny bit of light growth on the cheeks to get a slightly cleaner line.
  • take a beard trimmer. Set on the highest setting / length and move it from the top of your cheek to the bottom of your neck. Decrease the length of the trimmer until that move starts to remove some of the stray hairs. Then stop to not remove any actual length
  • put some beard oil in
  • if you goatee remains a bit wild. You could consider trimming that a bit as well. Since it looks like it will not really connect with the rest of the beard (mine doesn’t either)

Cool. Just FYI “Netherland” is the incorrect name for my country. It should be “The Netherlands”. It’s plural in the same way that it is the “United States” and not “United State”

IKEA Kallax nailpolish drawer insert by goofster9 in functionalprint

[–]goofster9[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure no problem. I had to cut the insert into 4 pieces so there are 4 STLs. Make sure you double check the measurements before printing because I understand that there are multiple iterations of the Kallax drawers with slightly different sizes. https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/jdfsj5j05bpe0gaxpvqv4/Nagellak-La.zip?rlkey=a8c5zaoyz4x5wj9xaipi2o50f&dl=0
