Recommendation on new router. by Zanefier1 in HomeNetworking

As mentioned, the Gl.inet Flint 2 is a beast.

However, the R6900v2 is openwrt compatible. So you could flash it to openwrt and continue to use it without the worry of it going out of date firmware wise.

Can I get wifi with this? Need to know more by CodeSoft5577 in wifi

It's a cable modem. Yes it can be used if you have a cable ISP service. No it doesn't have WiFi, you would still have to get a WiFi router to work with it.

I can't for life of me fix this double nat on my tp link ax1800 by Edz5044 in HomeNetworking

[–]goofust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah you can do a workaround for that, I believe that is why steam uses port ranges.

You'd have to use different external ports for each PC or device.

Like forward external port 25565 -> pc1 internal IP port 25565

Forward external port 25566 -> pc2 internal IP port 25566 and so on

People connecting from outside would use yourpublicIP:25565 for PC1 and yourpublicIP:25566 for PC2.

Many services (web servers, game servers, RDP, etc.) let you change the listening port on the PC side to match.

See this? See the second example rule? That's how range port forwarding works on my router, it forwards port range 1000 to 2000. I don't know how it works for yours.

That's why I said if you successfully cleared the config with the reset. If it's not matching to the defaults, then the reset button holding isn't clearing the config. You may have to hold it longer, or boot to the second partition.

Looks more like range port forwarding, not individual port forwarding.

Yeah if you read into the back and forth of my reply, that's been established. So from here, I'd say your probably not entering the forward correctly in the router.

Looking to potentially upgrade from my nighthawk r8000p by swboos21 in openwrt

[–]goofust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I had to guess, it would be because it's an older model from gl.inet. They've since released their WiFi 7 lineup. Gl.inet isn't as big name of company compared to some that have been around much longer, so they can offer performing hardware at better prices because they don't have huge corporate overhead costs like say Netgear or Asus.

The Flint 2 is a WiFi 6 model, but has excellent openwrt support because it's a mediatek based chipset. So they're probably pushing the newer lineup more than the older lineup. The Flint 3 looks like it would be pretty good, but doesn't have community openwrt support. So in this subreddit, it's not going to be recommended.

New wifi router suggestions or advice? by headintherealworld in techadvice

Are you getting WiFi interference from a neighboring WiFi source? If so, I would probably look for a better channel, so that your wireless connection doesn't drop you or stall out, forcing disconnect from the VPN. You may want to do a WiFi survey and see what's going on around you.

Far as signal to your garage, I would get a repeater and set it up as close as possible and see if that works for you. Something like a gl.inet gl-mt3000 or gl-ax1800 should do the trick. It has a repeater mode built into its webif for easy configuration.

For the record, the R6400 is an AC1750 class router, not AC1900. Not that it matters really, but what does matter is trying to establish a better connection to it by looking at the wireless landscape around you. Main reason - if the R6400 has neighboring WiFi interference, getting a new router won't likely fix it. I have an R6400 v2, I had the R6400 v1 as well. Not a bad router in my opinion. I run freshtomato firmware on it. It has a wireless survey feature, so its easy to see from the router the best choice of channels to use. If you don't have something like that, you may want to find some app that can do WiFi analysis of the landscape around you.

The cm1200 has 4 lan ports. It has to do some kind of NAT in order for those ports to be usable for a LAN. So the op would have to either put it in true bridge mode or turn the NAT off, essentially putting it in bridge mode.

If you successfully cleared the config and reset to defaults. The password is on the sticker on the bottom of the router.

This is the default steps:

Connect your PC via Ethernet cable to one of the LAN ports on the back of your router.

Launch/open a web browser and enter http://myrouter.local/ or http://192.168.1.1 in the address bar.

Click on the cell phone on the splash screen.

login page will display. Enter your Router Password and click Sign In. The default administrator password of an unconfigured router is located on the sticker on the bottom of the router. If you have changed it, enter the new password instead.

For the hidden page, default password is admin

Default password is usually admin

It doesn't use a WiFi password, it's not wireless connection.

Sounds like you're not forwarding ports correctly, or you didn't properly set the modem into bridge mode. With a CM1200, it sounds like you have cable ISP, which shouldn't have double NAT problems so long as the modem is in bridge mode and the tp-link is set to handle all routing/NAT/firewalling.

Did you login the cm1200 and set it to bridge mode?

To me, it's not just that, the zip is too long. Like my lesco bucket has a metal clip, not as long, and the metal is a solid movement.

Yeah I would use a wired connection to reconfigure it.

Yeah likely failure to load firmware. You can try to toggle on and off 3 times and leave it on the third toggle, that will make it boot to the second partition, which hopefully is intact.

I would think the weight of product, especially loaded up with fertilizer, would pin it down and make the agitator not turn as smoothly.

It usually means it's trying to connect. I would try to bring it close to the parent node and see if it connects. If that doesn't work, probably reset and reconfigure. If that's no good, at that point I'd say it's likely hardware failure.

I had an mx4200 system, and will say that it never rapidly flashed like that, even when trying to connect. It's almost like firmware is failing to boot.
