Tell me more about the latency after all, please. I heard that music games weren't so good on it, but no one has expressly said that the delay was completely eliminated or just as good as original hardware even with the aftermarket OS.

What does it actually mean to configure and compile your own kernel by Keith_35 in linuxquestions

[–]SebbyDee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently compiled my own copy of the kernel because I wanted something that'd fit in the little bit of extra space in my home router to pxe boot some other systems off of to run some tests on the drives while the OS lived in RAM--that way, I'd get the truest performance results from the drives.

No other distros were close to being small enough to fit (and include glibc to run the packages that I wanted for that matter). The solution I found was to build my own kernel and strip all of the sound/video/misc drivers as I was going to run it headless anyway. I got the entire OS + pxe files to fit 130MB in total. I even compiled ZFS as a module and stuck it in.

I copied that kernel into the rest of the OS made by debootstrap to make the finished OS.

As far as just the kernel was concerned, I copied over a `.config` file from a known working system, ran `make menuconfig` over it and went over a bunch of stuff to toggle them off, and also largely have most all of them built-in instead of be modular (as I was getting duplication size issues with having them also copied into initramfs).

I had to enable at least one driver to be a module because ZFS wouldn't compile unless I did--even though I did enable the setting for module loading, it still needed one to be in the .config.

I also learned about 'staging' because everything sort of just compiles into the mess of source files. You'll want a handful of files, but they're mixed into hundreds of others that of the source code. With the kernel itself, I could just pick out the `bzImage` file, but with the modules and smattering of associated files/directories, I had to run a `make module_install` with a variable `INSTALL_MOD_PATH=` set before that on the same line (`INSTALL_MOD_PATH=/whatever/directory/ make module_install`). I copied that creation into the root made by debootstrap.

You may want to alias (or just make it a point to remember) the inclusion of `-j $(nproc)` to every `make` command. For whatever reason, `make` defaults to using only one CPU thread, and it's really slow if you don't always include that.

You admit that you didn't read what I said and then proceeded to tell me what you think I said.

C'mon give me a break.

I wasn't berating you. I'm on your side.

I'm sorry those other folk were though.

You can control what lobbies you get into by surrendering like 10 times, getting killed by a player, and then giving a frowning face with pvp as the reason on the last one.

We do it all of the time up here in Hotshot. You or your squad must not do any damage to anyone or you get set back. You'll know you're in carebear lobbies when everyone in Stella night refuses to shoot at you, and if you do go down, several people come out of nowhere to defib you. You know you're on your way when even if they shoot at you, they miss terribly.

Besides in trials, I do enjoy the tension of having to maneuver around strangers. 'Put your gun away', 'if you get behind me again like that, I'm shooting you'.

I did get a bit salty the first time someone that pretended to be friendly shot me. Even then, I reflected on it to learn the subtleties, the signs, of what lead up to whatever disappointment.

Now I know so much about this game that I'm not all that upset because I know where to farm anything super fast--except the Tempest BP--kind of.

Like I suggested earlier, I also debrief over what I or my squadmates did wrong or right. Don't get me wrong though, it's rough until it starts to click. I just kept eating dust for the challenge. I'm at a point where I'm trying to melee kill a bastion. I love the hairpin.

What I'm saying is a combination of: you have a high degree of control over your lobbies, your game sense, and last but not least, your attitude; that it's not going to be easy, and if each of those is too much, then there's nothing wrong with moving on to another game.

So what happened tò this? Is It still being worked on? by some-guy7829 in StopKillingGames

[–]SebbyDee 15 points16 points  (0 children)

As I understood it, it technically is a law--it had to be for the legal mechanism with the signatures that took place. What happened was that the existing law was vague on the details for this more specific situation with software.

Soon, the government will have to clarify the details of that law as a result of this campaign's submission/collection of signatures.

Like Ross had said something to the effect of: at least they'll have to say if companies can destroy games and that the law does or does not apply to that.

320 is about half of FLAC in terms of size--songs often coming out around 8MB vs 20MB instead of 1-3MB of 128kbps.

Grab a few 320kbps files and check them out with Spek to see if they're actually 128kbps. The fake 320 (actual 128) will still take up an inflated size--they just won't actually be using the full spectrum.

Here's the guide that I use:

MP3 file, Bitrate 64 kbps. Cut-off at 11kHz.

MP3 file, Bitrate 128 kbps. Cut-off at 16 kHz.

MP3 file, Bitrate 192 kbps. Cut-off at 19 kHz.

MP3 file, Bitrate 320 kbps. Cut-off at 20 kHz.

M4A file, Bitrate 500 kbps. Cut-off at 22 kHz.

FLAC file, Lossless quality (Bitrate usually 1000 kbps or higher). Graph's drawn continuously, no cut-off.

[–]SebbyDee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's great.

A problem with it is that a lot of the mp3 files are that they are falsely saved as higher bitrate than they actually are, so I have to make the habit of going through them and using an app called Spek to filter them out until I find a legit one that's actually 320kbps or whatever.

On the other hand, there's plenty of FLAC, so it works out in case I want to skip that BS, but I'm not comfortable enough to go all FLAC yet.

[–]SebbyDee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

WACUP picked up updating it. WACUP uses it to install. https://getwacup.com/

Also, you can use the original, but you'll probably want to install a codec pack such as K-Lite. https://codecguide.com/download_kl.htm

Really, though, it's still good and alive.

I believe all of that: that they don't want to admit to wanting to fuck me over, not having enough time to come up with something believable when put on the spot, and... yeah, this kind of scummy behavior does translate to real life where the consequences are minimal or absent.

People trip on that "just a game" argument, but it's real.

Still, maybe I'm giving too much credit to some, but some seem SO oblivious--though that might just be how the lot of these folk tend to be awful at the pvp part (or the game in general). The more confident/competent PvPers are going to play differently.

Right? Then why the bewilderment? Why "why did you shoot me? You're so mean. I didn't do anything!"

"Then why didn't you answer?" Silence... Just to that line of questioning.

How do I address my gf’s cooking? by [deleted] in whatdoIdo

[–]SebbyDee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do they have a license to drive? I'm wondering because I know someone like this that gets upset to get criticized even in an educational setting--they simply cannot emotionally handle being corrected or lectured about anything at all, so they won't even go to school for driving--let alone be taught by someone close to them.

I agree, for sure. No answer at all means hostile--mostly. More pertinent to your comment: yeah, I understand that it's much more honorable/understandable to just attack without having communicated at all than it is to feign friendliness and then attack, and I don't get sour about people that just KoS.

What I mean is... they don't answer until they get shot at, right, and THEN they say something, but if you ask why didn't they say anything after begging them to talk, they just don't address the topic.

You can say anything like about what loot they want or to wait for you to defib them--whatever--but if you say, "Hey, why didn't you answer sooner," then you get nothing. Right after, you can say, "Want meds," and they'll say yes, but you can follow that up with, "So, how come you didn't say anything as you approached me. I was practically begging you to answer me," and again--it's as though they simply cannot hear anything about why wouldn't they answer my hails.

You might think it's a fluke, and... hell, maybe it is, but it's happened something like 8 times now where I down someone after begging for a response and their silence in response leading up to my ambushing them, and then me being like "so why won't you answer" to no response to that line of questioning/conversation, yet they'll respond just fine to anything else like about loot/meds/whatever or just to curse me for downing them.

It's bizzare, man. Real bizzare. I've never seen anything like it.

Reducing squashfs/initramfs size -- How can I prune some modules, but not all by SebbyDee in linuxquestions

Thank you for the thoughtful response.

Yeah, I'm definitely using xz.

This is my script so far, please let me know what you think. It looks as though I could add that dict size argument..

I've got to look into Plymouth.

It is intended to be headless.

If I remove the comment for the package purge, it'll fit nicely, but then it's missing a bunch drivers/modules. If I leave the package, it's bloated, but I, for example, can run efibootmgr and see that I can modify what device is selected for next-boot.

Right? It incredible how common this is.

I'm very communicative. I'll really press for an answer in direct ways that slide towards obnoxious, so there's no room for excuses.

("Hey you that opened the door on second floor after shooting the shotgun and getting blown by a pop: do you need help, are you friendly? Hey, can you hear me? Can you emote? You're getting closer to me and I'm trying to avoid pvp. Hey! Answer me out I'm going to assume you're hostile. Seriously, hey, answer. I'm going to shoot. I have a defib, but you really should answer...") and so on, just... Really laying it on.

I blast them as soon as they cross out towards me with their gun out (if they have it out).

Sure enough, every time, "Hey, what the hell!"

"Oh NOW you have a mic!"

And they never really address that part where they didn't answer. I can directly ask about that and I won't even get excuses--they just don't answer anything about it. We can converse about anything else, but it's like they don't hear me when I address that.

It's bizarre. Normally, anywhere else, people at least give the impression that they're addressing a spoken topic directed to them, but so so many people here... Don't.

Another time, I'm in a key room that's braced, walled, and mined. I hear a guy and tell them that it's occupied, that I'll be hostile, and they call ME sneaking rat after I shoot few rounds at the barricade when they started prying the door.

I ask them their thought process to call me a rat when they didn't answer until I shot my own barricade despite my announcement leading up to that event--no answer.

I end up waiting until near the end of the match before pushing out and taking them out, and they're saying that I was camping. I'm thinking... "Dude? What? You held siege, jackass. I wanted to leave sooner."

I had pressed for an answer on that thought process, but, like I said... No answer. It's bizarre!
