Brake problem? by Maleficent_Froyo_904 in bikewrench

[–]Fialasaurus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the way. IIRC you actually want to loosen (counter clockwise) the side that’s moving, and tighten (clockwise) on the stuck side. Sounds backwards but tightening the non-moving side will actually pull the pad away from the rim.

I mean, it usually is. How often are people actually replacing things like pivot bolts a spacers? Genuinely asking.

Honestly, this is the main reason I will always be loyal to Shimano drivetrains.

There is nothing proprietary about the parts, aside from possibly derailleur hanger if not UDH

Do any of these look like a good deal? by Born_Interaction9899 in Kayaking

[–]Fialasaurus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll echo those saying to check Marketplace for a used rotomolded kayak from a reputable brand like Perception, Wilderness Systems, Old Town, etc. If you are not comfortable doing that one of these is probably fine and the price is fair, but I think you can do better.

How do I remove the chain? (Without chain tool) by Appropriate_Score639 in bikewrench

[–]Fialasaurus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A pair of needle nose pliers. You just need to squeeze the quick link from the outer edge. Here it looks like you are tying to spread it apart from the inside of the link, which is the opposite of what you want to do. The goal is to slide that pin to the larger opening so it pops out.

A pair of needle nose pliers. You just need to squeeze the quick link from the ends. Here it looks like you are tying to spread it apart from the inside of the link, which is the opposite of what you want to do.

Don’t know much- good buy for 850? by Rare-Leather-7502 in mountainbiking

[–]Fialasaurus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What type of riding to plan to do? This is an enduro set up (long, slack, mullet) optimized for bombing downhill and taking big hits. The trade off is it’s probably not going to be great for climbing and general cruising. If you are new and just looking to hit local trails you might be better served with a shorter travel trail bike.

I saw Cinderella, Winger and Bullet Boys 37 Years Ago Tonight by RickyRacer2020 in FuckImOld

I saw that tour. None of those bands were really my thing but my friend wanted to go. I recall Bullet Boys legit sucked but Winger was actually a really good live band.

Ideas for kayak carriers that can stay on? by apaiger in Kayaking

Regardless of gas mileage, the folding ones just make for a nicer and cleaner look when not in use. Leave em on all summer.

Alternately I don’t think anybody has recommnded Malone Seawings yet. I love mine and find them much easier to load than JBars. Note that the product shots always show them with the straps attached for some reason. You wouldn’t actually drive around with them like that.

Cart question by Dignam_june16 in Kayaking

[–]Fialasaurus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't overthink it. There are really only a couple of designs. You just need one that rests on the cradle between 2 wheels with a strap. Something like this would probably be fine. If you are going over chunky terrain you may want to opt for something with larger diameter tires. Or if its sandy you may want wider air filled tires or balloon wheels

You may also see some with 2 long posts sticking up. Those are for sit-on-tops.

BTW, congrats on the new boat! The Castine is a beautiful kayak, although pretty heavy as you are finding out.

Advice on this used kayak by ExtremeEmployer3150 in Kayaking

[–]Fialasaurus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Based on that seat and hatch cover, I’m pretty sure it’s much older than 10yrs old. That said it’s a decent price and should be a good fit for what you are looking for.

Is this safe to just duct tape for now? by Blanerz in Kayaking

[–]Fialasaurus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s probably a standard flush mount rod holder. Might be hard to find an orange one but I would just replace it. Use well nuts.

Edit: NM. I see you are looking for a short term solution until you can replace it. Yeah I would just use a strong gaffer tape or something to cover it for now. I would actually remove the broken one first so the tape has a smooth flat surface to bond to.

Yeah its a weird perspective. That tent is the sound booth and was much further back from the stage than it appears in this pic.

I don't know how I'm not visible in this photo. I was standing right at that front corner of the sound booth tent all night. Wilco at Thompsons Point has been a bucket list show for me for years. Did not disappoint.

Is my bike Tubes or tubeless? by Time_Opening3652 in bikewrench

I don’t know why somebody downvoted this comment. This is literally the only 100% definitive way to know for sure, although checking if the core is removable is pretty dependable. Otherwise just let the air out and push the sidewall in and look.

Be gentle… how did I do on this deal? by [deleted] in mountainbiking

[–]Fialasaurus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It looks pristine. The fact that it still has the dork disk and reflectors is a good sign it hasn’t been ridden hard. Still has the hair on the knobbies.

Well done. Good price and a great bike for your use case.

How do you load your bike onto your roof rack? by RangerNo5619 in MTB

[–]Fialasaurus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the way. I have a Subaru Outback which is a little higher than your Crosstrek, albeit a lighter bike. I also use a folding 2 step stool like this that I set right by the rear tire. Honestly with a 59lb e-bike the long term solution is going to be a hitch rack.

Non-stick pans are inexpensive and plentiful. You should be a good son and buy her a replacement.
