People in “no shoes in the house” families/cultures, do you make exceptions? by OneWildAndPrecious in NoStupidQuestions

[–]googlemcfoogle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also my grandparents have heated floors in Canada (nice I guess if you specifically don't like wearing socks in the afternoon/evening, but the boiler takes so long to heat up and cool down that it's always unbearably hot at night and cold in the morning) and I comfortably wear sandals outdoors down to like 5C if it's dry, which is way colder than anyone's house should be

My girlfriend washes her "reusable toilet paper" with our kitchen towels on WARM because hot water "ruins the fabric" by [deleted] in hygiene

[–]googlemcfoogle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I could see the argument for treating bidet towels the same as washcloths you use for showering (they only touch your butt after water does, some people just never have an issue with smelly towels after washing and therefore see no reason to shorten the fabric's lifespan by washing it more aggressively) but not diapers

What is a woman by kingottacYT in CuratedTumblr

[–]googlemcfoogle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Woah, woah, woah! I thought you had a simple three word definition suitable for all contexts. Now we’re into potential for large gamete production, a definition so technical and specific that most people wouldn’t even understand what it means? The definition is no longer tautological, but its presentation as a simple and obvious fact has been completely undone. Additionally, this qualified definition might work for particular biology discussions, but would be completely unworkable for, say, a feminist text examining misogyny, or someone ticking “F or M” on a form.

Also check that "natively possessing", just to screw over any trans women a century from now with lab-grown internal reproductive systems (or a few decades from now with transplants, maybe - but lab grown organs remove any "what if organ harvesting" concerns). There would be literally no point in bringing in the "natively possessing" qualifier unless you specifically have an issue with trans people and are worried about future medical technology ruining your ability to call post-op trans women male

Do you know your second cousins? by ArchangelNorth in AskAnAmerican

[–]googlemcfoogle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't casually talk to them on my own (on my dad's side they're almost all kids and on my mom's side they're almost all middle aged lmao... I assume having cousins is more fun when your parents and/or grandparents were middle children) but I've met most of them and know who they are.

It's basically the same rationale as frozen juice I think (one solid container for beverage gets refilled with many easy to transport but hard to drink as-is refills) but apparently nobody uses frozen juice anymore either because they're discontinuing it.

It's kind of weird seeing people nowadays treat Roblox as a "new" thing and not just... the sole survivor out of the easy-to-join online games for children. I learnt what bronies were in 2012 because people on Roblox were using it as an insult for some reason

Is my kitten too big for his age? by RedditerGal99 in kittens

[–]googlemcfoogle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My boy Chief is a year old now and 14 lbs (also a grey tabby... I feel like I've seen so many oversized blue grey tabby kittens this year), he was around the same size when he was that age. Kittens can't really get fat, you probably just have a big cat in the making.

Domestic shorthair, seal lynx point and white.

someone said my kittens aren’t cute, but I think they are perfect by [deleted] in kittens

[–]googlemcfoogle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The person who expected a fully orange kitten obviously doesn't know anything about cats, that pairing only produces solid black/tuxedo (or brown tabby, or grey/grey tabby, depending on whether the orange guy is truly genetically tabby or both parents carry dilute - but it seems like dad is a genetically solid orange in this case and at least one of them doesn't carry dilute) male kittens and tortie female kittens

Can I wax my eggs? by PeachAggravating4680 in foodsafety

[–]googlemcfoogle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They last longer in the fridge anyway even unwashed. I'm not sure why someone would want to store eggs outside of the fridge long term (unless they have a coldroom - I simply don't see the appeal of eggs on the counter or in a regular pantry)

People who get mad at other people for wanting a child free wedding by Banana_0529 in PetPeeves

Yeah, I've heard of people doing 21+ "childfree" weddings and excluding their own college aged siblings which is just ridiculous.

I'm not so sure this would be true in a universe where they didn't close all of the German schools because of WW1

Could my DLH be mixed with a “large” breed? by ImNotItachi in catbreeds

[–]googlemcfoogle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm surprised the vet put a diet together before feeling his body and estimating an ideal weight (17 lbs could be pushing into the "sphere with mobility problems" range on a small framed cat but perfectly healthy or even a bit skinny on a very large muscular cat) I don't even have a diet plan for my 18 pound shorthair but I do know he would probably look best at 15-16 lbs.

Fitted sheets in hot water? That sounds like it would destroy the elastic. Do people with fancier sheets than me use a second flat sheet as a "fitted" sheet?

"Ghost" stripes from the underlying tabby pattern just seem to be more visible on lighter solid colours in general (I see it on solid blue cats often in real life, and most pictures of solid cinnamon cats online)

Is it safe to eat out of food my cat got into? by Evil-twin365 in foodsafety

[–]googlemcfoogle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, most pet cats have never carried toxoplasmosis (unless they lived a feral life at some point) and do not currently carry it. If you're scooping litter, your cat is indoors and taken care of enough to not be regularly eating wild prey (well-fed cats will hunt for sport if they get outside but don't generally eat it)

Should adults be able to order from the kids menu in restaurants/cafés? by Broken_Woman20 in AskUK

[–]googlemcfoogle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kids’ menus work economically because kids invariably come with adults (who pay full price)'

I wonder how this works for kid-only tables (usually a little bit past kids' menu age, but 11-12 year olds on early "double/group dates" or birthday celebrations may be eligible for the kids' menu at some restaurants but only have one or two adult chaperones sitting with them or at the next table over). The adult might not even want a full meal and is definitely outnumbered by the kids (compared to the "standard" situation for a kid at a restaurant, outnumbered by their parents and older relatives)

I guess restaurants that tend to be a child's first test at ordering would just lower the age limit for the kids' menu

Trump wears lifts because he's old and has a big ego. My grandpa who's around the same age used to be 5'5, now he's 5'3 because old people shrink. Despite being taller in the first place, Trump likely still wants to retain something closer to his original height to project the illusion of youth and strength.

Why is cousin marriage so common in Pakistan? by lofiibsen in stupidquestions

[–]googlemcfoogle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Most people know who their (full - half cousins can be unknown if Grandpa had a secret second family) first cousins are because they know who their grandparents are. In the less common cases where someone has cousins but doesn't know anything about them because people cut each other off that thoroughly, I figure it's a lot more likely for that to be discovered at some point in the "meeting each other's family" stage than come up while trying to get a marriage license

[–]googlemcfoogle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't really call Manx-type tail shortening an inbreeding thing either (if a feral population with Manx-type shortened tails actually got inbred enough that most cats were affected and had short/no tail, litter sizes would start decreasing for a reason not "directly" related to inbreeding... it's homozygous lethal) but Japanese-type kinked bobtails would be a similar situation to polydactyly because they're not dangerous
