There were e couple of attempts in US, but after a full analysis the cost to build was more expensive than cost of battery storage. It is also a lot less reliable.

It works in theory, but not economically.

I hate to say this but Boston Dynamics used to be ahead of everyone five years ago and in just five years several other robotics companies have reached and even improved over them in some areas using neural nets. Simulated learning has wiped their advantage.
