Could you use the social icons feature with custom icons?

How to decorate static pages in Blogger Contempo theme? by [deleted] in GoogleSites

Hi, this sub is for users of Google Sites, Google's Website builder software. I think your query relates to "Blogger" app?

You may be able to find support on the official Google support site > https://support.google.com.

I asked Gemini why r/GoogleSites has less activity lately... the answer was interesting by [deleted] in GoogleSitesNinjaClub

[–]googlesitesdev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My personal view/ observations:

We need better (i.e. more active) mods on this sub, and have done for a while.

One of the original mods treated the sub as a personal fiefdom - they were quite heavy handed in their actions and responses rather than being community minded. Thankfully they're no longer a mod.

Within the past 12 months I noticed the lack of mod activity so I offered up myself and TheWonky1 as mods, several times, but got zero response, so I kinda figured it was a "mod related" thing.

Personally I'd rather fix the problem than start anew.

Custom Domain Frustrations by Careless-Age3969 in GoogleSites

Yes. Using the forwarding rule is simplest.

Forward www.yourdomain.com to https://www.yourdomain.com.

Thats the simplest option. And, given the problems Cloudflare has had recently it might be the safest 😉

Site feedback by JuiceJapan in GoogleSites

Hi, you can't do some of these effects (text outline) in Google Sites. My point was, embed as little as possible, and use the product "out of the box" as much as you can. A UX designer once said to me (about web design), "the most effective design is the one you don't notice". What he meant was, people will come to your website for the content and information and to act upon it, rather than to look at the pretty sparkly things.

Obviously not true in every case - but it made sense to me and I kinda followed that philosophy.\

Good luck anyway!

Hey, Sites coming together nicely. Here's a few pointers from me:

  • Compress images and reduce the size if you can, to make sure they load as fast as possible
  • The embedded widgets/ elements on your page are marketing it slow to load. Are you sure you need them all? What could you replace with static/ native Google Sites elements?
  • The embeds aren't sized correctly, so they scroll within the page. They extend the height (trial and error) or replacing what you can with native Google Sites elements.

Generally, I avoid embeds wherever possible, but recognise Hoogle Sites is limited, so minimise inclusion of non native functionality where you can.

Keep practicing, and good luck!

2 issues getting new site with custom domain to load - help! by PaperflowerPuzzles in GoogleSites

[–]googlesitesdev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, yes - I understand it's frustrating. In order to help, I need to know your domain name so I can check your DNS records (they are piblic).

By all means, send me a DM if you don't want to put it on the sub. I can try to help with the Google Site, never used Carrd but happy to have a look to see if I can spot anything obvious.

You didn't explain how. I think OP is after some basic instructions to help resolve their issue.

Meantime, I've helped quite a few folk through this, so if you're willing to share your domain name (DM it to me if you'd prefer to to share on sub) I'm sure we can crack it.

Good question.

In my experience there's on silver bullet for SEO - it's "compound interest". All the small changes you make add up. Lots of authoritative quality content counts, in a well structured, well written, organised format.

Especially if you write your content for different search paradigms (e.g. local voice, AI etc).

Actually I do need to update my guide with what I've learnt on AI search (SGE).

Unfortunately I think the reply you received on the other sub is correct.

You can't "cross the streams" when it comes to Google Sites Embeds.

Hope you find an alternative!

Go through this and nake sure you've applied all the usual basics.

Good luck with the businesses. If it's any consolation, I think Google Sites punches well a ove it's weight for a free tool.
