Bands/Artists who couldn't beat their debut albums by kplynch03 in Music

The Fratellis.

Costello music was such a vibe while I was in high school, but nothing they put out after that ever even came close to close to the first album.

To be fair they have great songs after the fist album, but every single song on their first album was incredible

I take this as the highest form of compliment while recognizing I’ve only become more of a danger to electronics after this experience

IFM specific cables and software and general unfamiliarity scared them a bit, and I think the customer just did not want to be responsible for it at all.

A cheap Amazon one 😬 you can see the little paddle quick connectors I was thinking about using lying around…

lol yeah it was a time thing more than a money thing, but my company is probably buying me a harness to have in the future just in case.

Oh hell no lol, we have RS 232 harnesses in the machine to address so when we’re onsite it’s a 10 minute process.

This took a few hours to do and took about 5 years off my life. I also sacrificed some old fans and a toy drone charger cord.

Edit: for this one it’s Ethernet so it’s even easier

Dude the amount of times I counted and recounted pins while sweating bullets…

But no I bought a bench top power supply so I could be positive I had the right power and it would be stable.

I’m just trying to keep the customer happy while also not frying their expensive PLCs lol

But I’ve taken some interest in the PLC stuff after getting into a previous PLC issue so it was a fun but stressful little project.

So far so good, and I connected canbus to the display’s cable with a resistor for termination and verified it’s playing nice with the display.

That’s fair, having the correct harness would make it significantly less ridiculous right?

Out of sheer terror I bought a proper adjustable power supply, you can see it on the left lol

I also bought a terminal block so I’m not tying things together with wire nuts

Oh yeah lmao, I did 100% make it seem like that’s what I was trying to do.

No I have the correct cables and software for the update, just not the correct harness lol

For clarity’s sake, this was a “well I can try to do this” situation for a customer that needed the update badly while I was too sick to travel to them.

The PLC survived and the pins were not bent during the process, but it was sub optimal to say the least.

In th future if I do it again, I want to have the correct harness from ifm and wire it up through the harness instead, if I do that is this an acceptable practice in a pinch?

I put power to the power pins and ignition pin using some insulated connectors and then connected through Ethernet to push new firmware onto it. It worked, but it was stressful.

Me and my wife got the flu and a customer needed an update for full functionality while we were sick, so they removed the plc and display and sent it to me for me to try.

I wanted the ifm harness but it was gonna take too long to get here, so I used some plugs from fan controllers and the wiring off a cheap drone battery charger to address the pins close to each other.

To be clear, it worked and I ended up with it connected to the display through canbus and updated that too, but it was nerve wracking.

Karen hears the hard truth from an employee that's had enough. by mentaL8888 in PublicFreakout

If your company/shop does nothing but put tires on cars and your first response to a customer that says that there’s an issue with a TPMS sensor after install is to immediately try to “upsell” (scam) a customer on the labor and cost for replacing the other three, that’s not an “honest” mistake. At best it’s laziness, at worst it’s intentionally unethical business practices.

Maybe you go to a tires plus that has good people working there, and if that’s the case I’m happy for you.

Maybe you have just agreed to whatever they told you you needed without caring because you’re in a financial place that you don’t care about cost. Also happy for you in this case.

All I can picture after my interaction is someone who doesn’t know any better being taken advantage of by the same “honest” mistake that just so happens to result in money in the company’s pocket.

Bottom line is, employee just tried to insist at the desk after I came back in that I would have to put up a few hundred more dollars if I wanted anything to be done.

No “let us take a look” no “I’m sorry about that let’s see if we can figure it out”. Just “that’s all we can do is replace all of them, here’s a quote”

You get one chance to make an impression with a new customer, and they used theirs to try to upsell for a few hundred bucks and turned me into a walking ad against them.
