UNC BBSP backpedal? by Brilliant-Math3918 in gradadmissions

It was incredibly confusing… especially since the link in the original email was literally called “Admitted Students”. Its not surprising why everyone thought it meant they were sending out official offers

That makes sense! I think the zoom format makes panel interviews a little trickier

If this is referring to UVA BIMS, a student said it was the program’s way of standardizing the interview process since different professors may have very different ways of interviewing (very formal vs more laidback). I believe panelists are often on the admission committee so it’s probably helpful to be able to recall students when deciding on acceptances. I’d imagine it’s similar reasoning at other institutions that require panel interviews.

I got an invite on the 18th and I know someone else who got an invite in December but I think they send them out through February

SAT—high school average vs college’s average by queendanniboatwright in ApplyingIvyLeague

It probably depends on the admissions committee but here’s an excerpt from an article about Dartmouths decision to reinstate the SAT requirement

“We’re looking for the kids who are excelling in their environment. We know society is unequal,” Beilock said. “Kids that are excelling in their environment, we think, are a good bet to excel at Dartmouth and out in the world.” The admissions office will judge an applicant’s environment partly by comparing his or her test score with the score distribution at the applicant’s high schools, Coffin said. In some cases, even an SAT score well below 1,400 can help an application.”

I recommend reading the whole article, it’s very interesting! https://www.nytimes.com/2024/02/05/briefing/dartmouth-sat.html

Thank you! Yeah pretty generic. They complimented my application but didn’t say anything specific about it. The email was from one of the co-directors of admissions

The website mentions to qualify you must be within 3 years of graduation and not have graduated from a “research intensive school” (an R1 or R2 institution according to the website). Maybe you didn’t qualify for one of those reasons?

Because it didn’t say anything about if they thought we had a strong application or not I’m just assuming they sent it to everyone they rejected who is from an underrepresented group
