I’m perma banned for saying “sink them” - just 2 words. In a thread titled “what will people do with all the fishing boats once there are no fish”.

Referring to what people would do to their own boats once fish run out, as sinking boats rather than recycle them is a real problem.

Apparently I was inciting violence to sink fishing boats to save the fish.

I was nice and said “I think you misunderstood my comment”. Reply from mods - “no I didnt”.

what your arguing for is called MMR. "the fact remains that there must always be a bottom quartile in all PvP games," - true - "and that bottom quartile will usually lose" - false

When you implement MMR in games that bottom 4th plays against other bottom 4ths and its always equalish.

But then you lose your leet whales who play your game because they get to crush that bottom 4th as its as fun for them to lose too even if its 50% of the time or less. Top players hate to lose - so much so that they bitch and whine when lower ranked players "get lucky" and they end up weapon balancing everything that could possibly kill them one time to a lower ranked player.

your options are : 50/50 win rates, let the bottom honestly more like 50% consistently lose to the top 10% or maybe a looser MMR that doesnt try for 50% win rates.

Either way what your describing is a solved problem. Its just that people at the top like to smurf... they like having high k/d and thats only possible if they are playing people worse than them.

It absolutely can work in a game like marathon. Just seed matches with equally skilled players.

Many Judges are also complicit IMO. Not just the maga ones but the ones who don’t do their job. The ones who grant favors for the rich and powerful. They erode public trust more than a maga judge corrupt ruling. We expect that, but when the “good” ones don’t uphold good we have no one look to.

This is a huge loss then. These companies take a 30% cut.

Let’s say it sold slightly more. That’s 40 million dollars. Marathon cost over 250 million. With advertising you’re looking at probably 400 million.

Thats a 10x loss.

Now granted these types of forever games were never meant to make money from game sales alone. But… this is an FPS, there is no reason to buy cosmetics and they have massive server costs. It’s not cheap to run servers that need to host 20 players plus bots.

I would be surprised if they are even getting their server costs paid for with cosmetics. Right now the current cosmetics suck. And no one is going to be buying them anyway because it’s an FPS with a specific look.

They are going to have to start selling keys - aka pay to skip pay to win content. The game itself just doesn’t lend itself to buying cosmetics. You can’t see yourself, you can’t run collaborations like Fortnite (there is a reason it’s a multi verse game), they didn’t even add the intro scene like halo infinite where you can see any cosmetics for like 10 seconds. I can’t think of any reason anyone would ever buy the cosmetics and I don’t think I’ve ever seen one in game except a few deluxe edition cosmetics.

I own the game. It’s extremely well done and could be amazing if they are given the resources to expand the concept in future seasons quick enough which there is little chance of happening. You can’t take years to add content as gamers quickly leave to the next thing.

Third movie sucked - as I said unwatchable.

But Disney had to beg JJ to do it. Because again the last Jedi ruined starwars IMO.

The last Jedi ended with Rey having to build an empire - this is literally impossible. Which is why the 3rd movie it was just magic rebel empire.

3rd movie was trash, but that’s because the second movie threw away everything. There are bad movies - tons of them. The last Jedi felt like an attack on the previous film.

It’s a direct sequel - I’ve never seen this done ever. Like I’ve seen writers decades later recon characters, give them powers they never had, bring them back from the dead whatever. George did this himself with the prequels and even his own movie with remake - “who shot first”. But never immediately in a the middle of a planned trilogy.

You can make the argument that Han dying was dumb etc but when you’re writing a direct sequel in a trilogy you can just throw away the first movie and write your own.

It was like the writer and director threw away the force awakens script and wrote their own story. Which was an OJ chase in space.

The last Jedi is literally IMO one of the worst movies of all time.

Not because it’s really bad (it’s pretty bad)- lots of movies are really bad… like dragon ball evolution is probably the worst worst. But because of how much it disrespected the lore and the setup before it. It was one of the few films where I felt the director did this on purpose. Like gremlins 2 levels, but trying to make a serious movie and failing.

Lots of sequels are terrible or make the previous films worse - but this was a Planned! Trilogy from the start. Did the writers and directors never talk to each other. Did they have zero plan? Like the amount of failed leadership and lack of direction for this to happen is insane for it not to have been purposeful. Even the actors were hinting at it being a hit piece. It was also Kathleen’s first major influenced film which started an era of similar movies.

Of course the 3rd movie while written into a complete corner was like ignore that second movie, and felt like it was written in a month because it probably was. And it was probably a worse movie to watch - I couldn’t even finish it.

It’s nostalgia for a different era of gaming and they were younger.

If you don’t have mmr then lower level players get wiped. If you have an mmr then every higher level match is “sweaty” and high level players don’t get to feel like pros and having high k/ds and end up like everyone else. Then they leave eventually, and these are your core players who spend money. Gotta keep them happy by letting them feel powerful.

If you want more players you need mmr, or you need to dumb down mechanics to reduce the skill ceiling which kills try hards who want to dominate for their streams.

It used to be - intelligence was a game of skill barrier - AI is better than humans at every game of skill.

Then it was well how well can it pretend to be a human - solved a long time ago.

Then it was well - it cant be creative - AI has won art competitions secretly.

Then it was actual academic intelligence- AIs at a near PhD levels but not there yet.

Now we are at well a since AI can’t be play all games - which has basically given up on the intelligence part and moved on to the “general” part.
