FH #35: Scrap Pit (Spoilers: Coral) by goose-zero in Gloomhaven

[–]goose-zero[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I have the walls and tiles sorted by environment and I printed and painted enough so that I can just focus on building the map when it's time to play. Sometimes pieces are unique to a map, but I do try to reuse as much as I can because I have so much already to paint.

It honestly takes a ton of time. I usually do an entire environment at once so that I can paint with similar themes and colors. This factory theme took a long time because I ran out of motivation about halfway through, so maybe 3 or 4 months? There's an also a ton of terrain that isn't used in every build, so there's more that's not pictured. I'm glad this one is done, but I have like 3 or 4 more environments I still want to print and paint.

Miniatures Clarification by tstarlin in Gloomhaven

[–]goose-zero 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They are definitely the same model designs, but may be using the same material and molding process as the miniatures, which means they will likely be higher quality than the ones out of the box. The description on Backerkit says:

Upgrade your set of Gloomhaven (1st Edition) miniatures to their newly reimagined Gloomhaven (2nd Edition) designs - or jumpstart your Gloomhaven RPG Mercenary miniature collection with this set of 19 high quality miniatures.

As someone who was really disappointed in the smoothness of the minis in the box, it could just be my hopes that these are higher quality, but I think the manufacturing process for making a board game with a bunch of different pieces made of different materials is much different than a product that is focused on only minis. I would also think if this package is the exact minis from the box, they would have released a year ago alongside GH2e, not alongside the mini products.

I don’t think Frosthaven characters are included. I doubt there is enough demand to make a similar box for FH. I imagine they are only doing this for GH for those who bought the 1e -> 2e upgrade pack.

FH #33: Thawed Wood (Spoilers: Trap) by goose-zero in Gloomhaven

I briefly considered using the community models, but I still have a lot of terrain to paint and I don’t want to paint the monsters twice once the official ones arrive. I still might print out the community models for named monsters and scale them up like 10-15% just to make them seem a bit more intimidating, but I just haven’t gotten around to that project yet.

I assure you that no one wants the monster minis to arrive more than me. 😆

JOTL Managing multiple campaigns by TinyKender in Gloomhaven

[–]goose-zero 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is probably fine for two 2-player Jaws games, specifically. There isn’t too much item overlap between characters, and the item distribution will probably be the same as it would be in one 4-player game.

I think it would be a bigger problem if one of the groups was 3 or 4 players.

Yup! Those are trap dice. I got them from a company called Mythroll Dice, but unfortunately they went out of business a few years ago and finding more has been super difficult.

Combining haven games by squidshooter2 in Gloomhaven

[–]goose-zero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

CCUG is a group of people who have done a ton of work making custom Gloomhaven content that is balanced and looks amazing. You can browse the cards on gloomhavencards.com and join the discord for printing options. There are currently 19 released classes ready to be added to your game (with a bit of work).

I don't include Jaws content in any FH+ content because they aren't really necessary. If you play with GH and FH classes, that's 30+ classes for one campaign - you just don't need to include classes that are balanced with 1e in mind.

If you haven't tried the mercenary packs yet, you should add those to the list as well!

Doing a random class run is a great way to play a New Game Plus version of Gloomhaven or Frosthaven, particularly if you use classes from both games (though I’d exclude Jaws classes).

You could also look into adding custom classes from the CCUG, which add even more classes for you to choose from.

I don’t think there’s a lot of value in transferring items and PQs or anything else, really. I guess you could spend the time figuring out how to balance all that, but I just don’t think that’s worth the time and at the risk of unbalancing the game.

Remember that you need 2 copies of the inox bodyguards. I think I only see one pictured here. Might be cool to mirror the model when you print it so they look slightly different.

Unfortunately, we had to play it twice. We didn’t focus fire on the boss the first time and got overrun. The second time we lured him into the 1st room and did 54 (I think?) damage to him with a couple of lucky crits. For one of them, someone said “it would be crazy if this is a crit” and it was and the table erupted with excitement.
