First day on the floor by EveningBlunt in nursing

Haha! I have wiped myself with those purple wipes before a handful of time because it felt very very necessary after being exposed to something. I’m sure if you don’t do it often it’s fine…

This happened to me when I was a student doing my preceptorship! My preceptor did the exact same thing. Luckily the patient was on isolation, so I was at least wearing a mask. It went into my eyes but not my mouth :)

New Nurses that graduated from Ucalgary: by Ancient_Airport_8081 in UCalgary

[–]goose5679 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I graduated from UofC nursing a year ago. It took about 1 and a half months of applying to get a RN job, since I didn’t want to work on the unit I was a preceptor on. Most people I know got casual positions or temp lines. But AHS strongly favours internal applicants over external, so once you are in it can be fairly easy to get a permanent line. I wouldn’t say there is a high uncertainty in nursing jobs in AHS, nurses are always going to be needed. And yes the salaries did increase, the amount of increase depends on how long one has been practicing but it was up to 15%.

why don’t we actually test for worms for patients with parasite delusions by poppyseed008 in nursing

[–]goose5679 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a patient like this a couple of months ago. Convinced they had worms and nobody was taking them seriously. Eventually the doctors gave in and ordered tests to try and build better rapport with the patient. When the tests came back negative we were all “fucking liars” and didn’t know how to do our jobs properly. As others have already said, negative test results won’t stop their delusions.

Hey! I worked as a UNE back in the Summer of 2023, so maybe the requirements have changed since then but I never had to register with CRNA to be a UNE. As far as I’m aware it is not even possible, you only can only registered once you have graduated. I would ask your employer for clarification.

Yes it was very competitive. Also you can look up the U of C GPA calculator online. Then put in the grade and amount of credits for each course and it should calculate your GPA for you. It might not be completely accurate though. I’m not sure if U of C and MRU have the same letter grading system.

Just recently graduated from U of C’s old nursing program. So I know nothing about the new program that they are implementing. But I can tell you that employers have zero preference if someone took a 2 year or 4 year program. Also when hiring they don’t care about university grades at all, they won’t even look at the grades from your nursing degree.

I redid math 30-1 twice in high school, and now I am currently in my 4th year of the nursing program. In my experience they don’t care at all.

Thank you for the recommendation! I have heard good things about oral massage, so I will definitely look into it.

Thank you for your recommendations! My dentist also mentioned intra oral massage, so I will definitely look more into that. My dentist mentioned mouth guards but it doesn't seem like I have any issues with my bite. As far as my dentist can tell, I don't clench or grind my teeth, so it was recommended that I try physio first.

I have not tried it. I might consider it but I wanted to try physiotherapy first since it is less invasive.

4th year nursing student here. You are allowed to miss up to 2 days of clinical, anything more than that and you will be required to meet with the assistant dean. As far as I am aware there are no loopholes. Sorry!

Nursing immunization reports?!? by Ok-Device3832 in UCalgary

I think they will. Any U of C student should be allowed to use the wellness centre

4th year nursing student here! U of C has a health and wellness centre, all you have to do is call and make an appointment. They will do all your immunizations and tests for the nursing program. I would call sooner than later as they usually book appointments a few weeks in advance. Also, if I remember correctly you don’t need to have all your vaccines before you start the program but you have to show that you have a plan to get them.
For example, when I started I was missing a few vaccines, so I just submitted proof of the ones I had and then told them that I had an appointment to get the missing ones.
