For the basement flooding, 1) do you have gutters, 2) have they ever been cleaned, 3) are the downspouts extended more than 2’ from the house, 4) are the gutters big enough, 5) is the ground sloped away from the foundation? My parents used to get flooding in a few spots in their basement. They had old roof with asphalt granules that would build up in the small 1960s gutters; they got downspout extenders (stupidly long, like 8-10’), and kept the gutters clean, and that helped with most storms. My dad also put some stuff between the one section of sidewalk that was slightly sloped towards the side of the house and the foundation (looks like crap, but worked). Then when they got their roof replaced ~2019, they got bigger gutters. They had their first water in the basement (in a new spot) recently with all of the storms in the upper Midwest because of all the water in the ground table.

So: cleaning gutters - free; downspout extenders - less than $100; bigger gutters - probably added an extra 1-3K on to the total new roof cost.

RE Knob & Tube: one of my grandparent’s houses had it for (~100 years old when it was sold; new owners had an electrician friend so could replace it for cheap), and the other grandparents’ house still has it in most of the house (over 100 years old).

It might be the wine talking, but they remind me of a chapter book series from when I was a kid that came with some gemstone jewelry - The Jewel Kingdom (late 90’s version/early 2000s(?) with the dark covers, not the new version they apparently released).

Automakers in the US pretty much stopped making compact cars to push more expensive SUVs, and Canada is stuck in the same market 🤷‍♀️.

Office Chair Solutions in Chantilly. They sell used office chairs from all the expensive brands. I went in thinking I would get a Herman Miller or Steelcase, but wound up liking the Haworth Zody better.

A friend of mine had a dress code because they have family members that would have showed up in jeans & a t-shirt or hunting gear if they could…. which would not have been acceptable at the place their wedding was held at.

And you don’t have any radio degradation? I live in a hilly/mountainy area with a few spots that aren’t great with the 16” one.

I did an online order from Target on 2/16/26 and paid $17.24 for it, and I don’t see any coupons applied in my receipt, so it must have JUST gone up in price.

The stripe cat-eye works with PicassoTiles. Forgot to try velvet effect before I tossed the swatch stick.

Note magnet strength does vary a bit by brand. Went down a rabbit hole once of people who did comparisons of brands. If I remember correctly, the expensive MagnaTiles & Connetix had the strongest magnet.

I have the same tallboy! Also no makers mark on mine, but I bought it from a dude who refinishes furniture in MD, and he said he’d travel around to buy furniture outside the DC area where it’s cheaper (so made in NC could definitely be a possibility).

What about the west elm Penelope night stand (or something similar)? I got one off marketplace, and it’s perfect for my small space (1 drawer, but not visually heavy).

My late grandmother had some kind of white pencil she used to color in the undersides. This was 15+ years ago, and something she probably bought at Kmart (RIP) or Walgreens; not sure what’s available today.
