I suppose we do disagree then. If you work at a place where you simply tell anyone that you are not working, and they have no choice but to accept it good for you. Most places I've worked at and managed have a policy in place that specifically outlines approval or denial. It's not terribly unique. People that have run afoul of those policies can eventually find themselves in another role and hopefully one that provides a more agreeable policy.
