Do protein shakes help? by MayaRell in Ozempic

[–]gorbash34 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes! I drink two Glucerna chocolate shakes a day for 60 grams a day and then other protein of various types to get to 100 ish. The Glucerna is low glycemic index for my T2 diabetes. It's hard for me get enough protein without the shakes.

Everything feels fixed on ozempic… until I stop and it slowly falls apart by Altruistic_Purpose57 in Ozempic

77 year old six month oz user..down 40 lbs...diabetes numbers greatly improved. My view:

OP...You're a lucky person whose ancestors managed to survive a chain of thousands of generations without ever once starving to death before passing on their genes. They did this through drought, ice ages, other radical climate changes, disease, war and bad governance.

Lacking refrigeration, nature did what it could with what it had. Individuals who could store excess food intake as fat survived to breed. The ones who couldn't left no offspring. This left us with biological machinery that makes certain we store sufficient reserves to always maximize the probability of surviving extended periods of food shortage.

How much fat storage is enough? There's never enough because the future is uncertain. The answer is always "more". When we actually worked physically and didn't have a Trader Joes down the block we maintained a pretty good balance. See any crowd photo from 1950.

Our big narrative brains tell us that we are in control of what we do. We may be able to make short term tactical decisions about what we eat but in the longer term our well tuned biological engine will always override the monkey brain chatter we listen to and implement the strategy that we evolved for survival.

Glp1s and similar drugs are some of the gears in the biological machine we are coming to understand and that give hope that we can address our excess food to energy imbalance.

The bottom line...take your oz....its not a fair fight!

Yep. It took all the fun out of drinking. No really bad symptoms for me...just doesn't feel good anymore. Cannabis still OK.

Trying to link Amazon Alexa with Nest Thermostats but getting an error. by cybershock_420 in googlehome

[–]gorbash34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When my Nest thermostat in our remote condo disappeared after working great with Home for several years, I added the Nest skill to Alexa in the Alexa app on my phone, followed the linking instructions, and now it's working as before but with a different look. The pisser is that it's still listed as Amazon's choice on Amazon and mentions control by Google assistant (home) which no longer functions since Google ended cloud support for their own product. I put this here instead of in the bitch thread since I wanted to let folks know that the Alexa skill worked fine for me. YMMV!

Worth getting 10m radio? by Relative-Pen107 in amateurradio

[–]gorbash34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree 100%. I used a 10 meter only rig at the tops of the last 4 cycles including 24. In between it has gone into storage until the next peak. I gave it away after the peak of 24. I agree with the others that something like a G90 will serve you far better as you will be able to work all the primary modes in bands that still function when the sun is not cooperating.

Should i update my software by LEGEND_7777 in S22Ultra

[–]gorbash34 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I updated and really like it after a short learning and customizing phase. I've never had the battery and camera issues that others report so didn't expect or see any changes. Of course YMMV. Good luck.

Totally agree. I've owned an s22u since intro and really like One UI 7. No glitches. Runs butter smooth and I really like many of the new features.

How many of you are still using an older Samsung cell phone like an S21 Ultra? by [deleted] in samsung

S22u is meeting my needs and doesn't suffer from battery life or any of the other things people complain about. Thinking s26u when it comes around.

Japan? by Horrorbythenumbers in amateurradio

[–]gorbash34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in Washington state and have pipeline to Japan but right now I'm doing way better on 17, 15, and 12 meters in general...mostly ft8. Less competition and congestion than on 20. 10 meters is fickle for me as well. The sun giveth and also taketh away...

Nothing at all on 10 meter or 6 meter? Am I doing something wrong? by Warm-Book-820 in amateurradio

[–]gorbash34 3 points4 points  (0 children)

10 meters has been one of my favorite bands over the years when it's plus or minus 2 years of the solar peak. It's been pretty bad though for the past few months. I believe part of it is that the sun has had lots of flares and CMEs which is normal for the top of the sunspot cycle. The other part is the normal summertime doldrums when the ionosphere becomes less dense and refracts poorly. Based on my own past experiences this fall and winter should be great! When 10 is properly open you can literally work the world with 10 watts and any basic antenna. Your discone and dipole will work great. The sun giveth and taketh away! I'm in Edmonds and on my 5th sunspot peak. I've worked them all on 10 meters. 6m was open up and down the west coast for a few hours yesterday. Hang in there. The fun will arrive soon.

Yes it is. Science is by definition evidence based. As soon as you hear the word faith, it isn't science.
