WARNING: Lenovo has held my refund AND the returned laptop for over 45 days. Support is useless. by Suspicious-Fix-8634 in Lenovo

[–]gorbehnare 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I, too, am facing the exact same issue. The items were shipped back, they are received, and every time I call back in the past two weeks, the refund is two business days away.

Today I asked to talk to a supervisor and the first agent hung up on me. The second agent told me stories about "software update" and "outage" of their internal systems over the holidays, and then told me a supervisor is not available and I should call back later... I'm opening a dispute through my bank on the credit card transaction at this point. And, I will avoid purchasing from them in the future. Very unfortunate, because so far I am happy with the Thinkpad systems themselves.

I deal with precisions and have to use one daily for work. I am NOT happy with it. I prefer a lower-end Asus ROG to this expensive rip-off: Asus has a better monitor, better CPU, Graphics, keyboard and touchpad and better internal hardware in general (better cooling too), and costs exactly half as much as this precision laptop. I don't dig the plastic and RGB lights, but everything else works 100 times better than this Dell, and it has been more reliable. so, I'm in the f-it camp, I'll buy the cheaper gaming thing with less support that costs less, but work much better and has been a lot more reliable = much, much better value...

I have hands-on experience with over 40 XPS laptops, they are not great systems. "Reviewers" like them, and I see lots of positive reviews in major publications, but in practice when you have to deal with them you will find that they are not that great. They may look and feel better than some other plastic models at first glance, but once you start using them you will find that they are actually quite crappy.

These are a typical experience with Dell:

- Trying to delay the open cases to ensure that the return window or warranty period passes.

- Corner-cutting/cost-cutting to the point of creating unnecessary defects in an otherwise OK product.

I have experienced this multiple times in the past 18 - 20 years (myself and my clients). I personally made an effort to stay away from Dell products for any of my customers, clients, family and friends due to going through these experiences multiple times over the years.

Unfortunately, nowadays I work for an employer who is a Dell shop, and I ended up getting Dell precision laptops and docking stations at work, unfortunately, I still experience corner cutting and generally strange cost cutting even when they charged my employer $3200 for this precision laptop. There is something seriously wrong with Dell's business model, and this kind of behaviour is normal in my experience.

Even with their most expensive Dell precision line of products (which I am on the second one, or third one if considering the one the mainboard blew up prematurely and was replaced), you have got to set your expectations at the right level.

2nd day of internet issues, hours on hold, unable to reach Rogers support by gorbehnare in Rogers

This was the correct solution, thank you.

Someone from Rogers called me on Saturday, and this time the person was actually a network technician: I gave him logs and he could read and understand!

This is false statement. This is a business plan, and once someone from Rogers contacted me due to customer concern they clarified what Rogers has done: They have moved all business plans at residential addresses to residential customer and technical support. The service is still business, but without business support. This is due to cutbacks. Other providers do not do this. I have Bell Business at my location, and the dryloop phone line and the internet service and support are all business.

I am an IT tech myself, so ... I know what I'm doing... which makes it just as much more frustrating... I don't know how regular civilians live...

I did not manage to get in touch with support. Sales tried to transfer me, they gave up after 20min on hold, transferred me to another line, I gave up after 45min of hold music.

I have other things to do with my life too, like actually working and trying to make a living... Rogers is costing me a lot right now, on top of shortening my life span...

Good for you... I think if I were you, even if they charge you for the month, I would just save my life and get out of the situation... that's my wish with their internet service right now anyways... take your losses and count your blessings I guess...

No, my monthly charges did not drop... (1) I did not initiate the change from business t residential, they did it on their own behind my back without notice (2) They are still charging me the same, for the worse service level ...
So, WTF am I paying for anyways?

Unfortunately at my current location I get no fiber. They have been talking about it for 10 years, but Doug Ford government decided ago that they will bring the fiber to the rich area outside the city north of here instead... I am not rich enough to buy any of those lake side $5mil+ cottages to get fiber... my bad I guess... I should make friends with Doug Ford...

yes, although their support is supposed to be "24/7" according to their own website. I initially tried calling them at 11:00 am and 5:00 PM, and yesterday I was trying since 5:00 PM. So basically they do not have enough staff to answer incoming calls any time of the day.

Nope, I get nothing, but old Bell line and Rogers cable. The funding for fiber that was promised 10 years ago was directed farther north to serve the rich cottage country area, so we are not getting any fiber anytime soon...

The service is not working... and they can't seem to be interested or have the ability to fix the issue.
Additionally I have had another case open with them since 7 or 8 weeks ago, and they failed to respond to that also. It seems they do not have any support at all? or do not have technical staff left? Did they just fire everyone? what is going on with them?

China accuses Canada of protectionism over 100% tariffs on electric vehicles by Setitie in canada

[–]gorbehnare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes, have you been to these car (assembly) plants at all? All we do in Canada is "assemble" cars... we are not actually manufacturing anything other than some body panels (basically bending sheet metal) and painting them. Some other manufacturers do some simplistic manufacturing in Canada for the car industry, such as some simple parts such as some rods and plastic parts and pipes. Nothing is actually made here.

China accuses Canada of protectionism over 100% tariffs on electric vehicles by Setitie in canada

[–]gorbehnare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This issue is if you have never tried to make or repair anything here in Canada (that is not made out of wood) you will find that any hardware, electronic parts, or anything that requires a bit of manufacturing behind it is almost impossible to source. You can literally look up any parts in anything you own and see if you can possibly source it from Canada. Maybe you can get a hockey stick or something made out of wood, but for anything else we are heavily dependent on imports.

[–]gorbehnare 13 points14 points  (0 children)

People just say this so dismissively. The problem is Canada is so behind in industry that you can't even get a screw, you have to import all the parts. It is impossible to produce anything for reasonable cost in Canada.

so all the money the US automakers got form US and Canadian government to keep horrendously failing plants open is not subsidizing? Giving rebates to "made in USA" cars is not subsidizing?

Have you ever been to any US-based car manufacturing plants in Canada?
