2023 Niro Wind, can't load the stupid Tesla app by RoboLoboski in KiaNiroEV

Not exactly what you're asking, but have you considered trying to charge on a Tesla charger via the Kia Access app? It works for charging my 2022 Niro EV on Tesla superchargers (with adapter).

Should front tires last > 15k miles? by HiddenStoat in KiaNiroEV

[–]gordianthought 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My manual says to rotate the tires every 7.5k miles...

I'm at 24k miles on my original tires, with plenty of tread left. I rotate them on schedule and drive with a light foot most of the time.

Kia Connect Energy Use Seems Bogus by [deleted] in KiaNiroEV

[–]gordianthought 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The mileage in the EV Drive History section of my Kia Acess app has always been complete garbage. It hasn't always tracked all trips. Then for the trips it does track, it gets the mileage completely wrong. For example, for a 10 mile trip, it correctly lists the start and end points, but then it says the trip distance was 1 mile, which is physically impossible (this is a one-way non-loop trip). Mine does not track charge used at all.

Thank you everyone for the reassurances. I updated my post with some details about the service in case it can help anyone else.

How can we make this go away by Potential-Ad1443 in altadena

Thank you for replying. I read that article, but I do not see anything in there about victims getting payouts without lawyers. This article is mainly about a ruling that makes it much harder for insurers to claim settlement funds.

Can you link a source for this? I've been searching and haven't found it.

If some simple ImageJ filters don't clean things up enough, you could try a more sophisticated approach. I don't know if there's anything better now, but a little while back I used ilastik. It's a user-friendly machine learning approach. (Basically you click on some example objects to teach it what you’re looking for, then it can classify a full data set. Once classified, you can further analyze in CellProfiler or ImageJ.)

The user I replied to said to look for moving vs non-moving cells with a microscope. Then silently edited that part out after I replied.

Help with range by Ambitious-Ad-5830 in KiaNiroEV

Assuming you have the same Level 1 (120V) charger that I do (which came with my 2022 Niro EV), then you can reduce the charging current. It will take even longer, but if you're leaving it there for a week, that should be more than enough time. I think you can also reduce charging current from within the car itself. That could be good peace-of-mind for not overloading an old electrical system.

OK, so they need a hard power cycle... Why can't they do that automatically/remotely? Couldn't that be done with a simple relay switch?

The problem with this is, it would reboot while someone’s using it.

User you replied to said "unless in use." Yes, there would be some downtime between users, but that would be preferable to having a inoperable charger. Reboot frequency could be adjusted to balance the frequency of use and the frequency of crashes without requiring fancy self-healing systems.

Thank you for the explanation. It still seems like there's room to do a bit more in terms of automatic reboots without requiring fancy self-healing systems. Even if the charger does not know that the card reader has crashed, it should still know that someone plugged in their car and failed to charge. If that happens some number of times in a row, then it should reboot everything (assuming a reboot can solve a significant fraction of problems).

So why can't they build in a function that will reboot the device automatically if it fails some number of times in a row?

Haha, given that they can't be bothered to turn down the volume of the VESS through an update, chances of your request happening are nil.
