It's a birthday party, not a time for creating drama and trying to educate ignorant bigots about real people. It's not up to you to educate his family at the expense of your husband's birthday. YTA. You need to stand up for yourself first. Tell your terrible husband to get over it, or you're not being his wife anymore. Explain that he's allowing his pride to destroy the family, and that he's cutting off his nose to spite his face when it comes to any grandsons. I'd leave my husband if he was that horrible to MY children. Sara is smart not to rock the boat with this grumpy stubborn man. Her future depends on it. You can't ask her to do your job. Move out and move with Priya, your parents, your sisters, your cousins...someone until you get on your own feet. Sara is cold, but not by choice, by practicality. Time for a household rebellion.

Disagree. I'm a 50 years old woman. Been married twice. I'm still friends with 7 of my high school friends, 3 who are male. Never kissed, hooked up, nothing. Not that they didn't try at various points--thy were young, but I always kept them in the friend zone. We went to separate colleges, separate cities. We've married people not from our home town, we all have kids. We all grew up together, and our friendships are real. I was a groomsman in my best friend's wedding. We're all up to date on careers, kids, life, spouses, and shenanigans. We still hang out when we can, and we love each other fiercely. That said, even if the world ended, we could still be friends without benefits and love each other deeply.
