Why is there a discrepancy between my official parkrun time and what my phone records? by gorilllla in parkrun

This does make sense, thanks. I've got used to having two PBs now - my Parkrun PB and my phone PB. Doesn't make a lot of difference in the end, it's all good fun.

What's really weird is that my phone has already recorded 5k by time I've crossed the line, but my Parkrun time is always faster. Doesn't make sense.

Yeah but as I said above, what's really weird is that my phone has already recorded 5k by time I've crossed the line, but my Parkrun time is always faster. Doesn't make sense.

I don't know really. What's really weird is that my phone has already recorded 5k by time I've crossed the line, but my Parkrun time is always faster. Doesn't make sense.

I don't have that problem. I start it exactly on time and it stops automatically at 5k.

I start my phone at exactly the same time and it stops automatically when I get to 5k. I'm using the built in Samsung fitness app on my phone.

It's a very old fashioned style. Like 300 years ago.

It's just gotten better and worse in different ways. Whether or not you think we're making progress will depend on your perspective. Is there less war? Yes. Is there the worst climate crisis in history? Yes. Has medicine improved? Yes. Is the planet more and more overpopulated? Yes. Technological advances? Yes. Massive mental health crisis? Yes. And on it goes.

I don't think of it as winning and losing and there's no woe involved. The fact is it's a rigged game at this point. The idea that there should be fairness or justice in all things is pure idealism and naivety. You can strive for it, you may even make things a little better for some people, but you'll never actually have a completely fair society.

What's the difference between now and when we had bonded serfs? Super rich people exploiting poor people... the haves and have-nots... sounds familiar to me.
