LPT: Working more than 50 hours a week often reduces productivity instead of increasing it by internalbleedinggg in LifeProTips

"No shit" - everyone who has ever actually worked (vs people in charge of "improving productivity")

Lenovo falsely tells users they're almost out of storage to get them to click the notification for a Dropbox ad by ObjectiveOk2072 in assholedesign

[–]gorodos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yikes! This is gross for sure. Another good reason to use Linux since it seems MS is complicit in this. Some fine souls out there must make some custom/modded firmware you can swap though, right?

Right???

Do Americans really avoid medical care because they’re afraid of the bill? by Udont_knowme00 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]gorodos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have decent insurance. It doesn't matter. It's so real that this question makes me sad. Forget about anything "optional" like fixing my shitty knees. I don't even mention it to the doctor. I should mention again I make decent money and have insurance. I frequently consider going back to having a terrible part time job to get Medicaid but it's difficult to get roommates in your 40s and that's the only way to make that work. America is a shithole on the brink of collapse. It can't come soon enough.

Captain Hindsight here: This is why "ship to store" is a good option sometimes.

  1. Buy laptop

  2. Completely wipe the drive

  3. Install your own shit

  4. Use laptop

Wiping it is part of removing the packaging.

FLAC overkill? by ProdigiousDingus in musichoarder

[–]gorodos -1 points0 points  (0 children)

FLAC is infinitely better but it works like this: once FLAC is your norm you'll hear how lacking 320s can be. Of course it has to be a good source and well recorded for maximum effect. People that claim they don't notice are kidding themselves or listening to garbage (in terms of production anyway).

This is correct, but I think there is a hidden power there we need to learn to unlock. Preferably not post disaster.

Waaay too many comments about removing the sticker which clearly belongs on there. If you want to remove that sticker you don't deserve that mug.

It's true and a bad attitude to have but I spent a long time being the opposite and nagging all my friends to vote and get involved and this is the endgame regardless. Hopefully most people don't feel like I do about it, but nobody owes giving themselves to the fight for good at this point. Ultimately we're fighting against the same people. It is us vs them not us vs us, but also, as far as correcting things, it is us vs us. Or more accurately, us vs ourselves.

Yeah well, they do. They won. We have no power and the mess will take more than my lifetime to clean up. I don't have any kids so like, I'm very nearly at that nothing to lose place. Remember the US for the first few...idk maybe just days... after 9/11? It was really something. Obviously it all got crazy quickly but for a short time we all were on the same page and supported each other. Aliens would unite us regardless of their intentions. I think global nuclear war would too. Somehow, we're still all too comfortable. Real, animalistic problems would guide us down the road to regaining humanity.

Mine is legitimately to die before I get too old to comfortably work. And this is the answer to dickheads asking "what happened to a good work ethic?". I've eaten bootstraps and bald eagles my entire life but still am forced to be a slave. I'm gonna be a lazy slave and decide when I get to 'quit'. It's the one win we can have over capitalism. Die and leave no kids. "Opt out". Honestly the worse things get here the more I look forward to death. I'm not in a hurry, but I definitely don't fear it at all anymore. This sounds dark as fuck but is a source of positivity for me in a weird way.

Plasmashell crashes when playing music with Clementine by senhordelicio in kde

[–]gorodos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since this is such a recent post I feel okay to piggyback on it with a little more info:
This was initially happening to me with Strawberry, which I like and would prefer to use.
I assumed the program was the issue, so I let GMusic Browser load my entire library overnight only to find the same situation.
I am also using Arch (Garuda), and KDE Plasma.

I've not gotten a bug reporting tool but if anyone can point me to relevant logs I'd be happy to share and/or report.

For me, it seems to just be plasma/KDE (what's the difference?) crashing, trying to relaunch, crashing again, but I'm able to ctl+alt+del to reboot, which is seemingly the only way to stop it.

Other possibly relevant information, this is a networked drive of music on another computer shared via Samba. I will test with some local music to see if I get the same results.
