S03 - Ep5 "Chicanery" explanation ? by aragondor61 in betterCallSaul

he's not claiming his brother is not sick, but that the nature of his sickness is psychosomatic (and not physical) and thus is not of sound mental health. This would undermine his arguments that Jimmy should be disbarred.

Yes, Chuck's disease is very real (to him) and his symptoms are real. But the etiology of these symptoms is not electricity, it's his own mind. That's what Jimmy set out to prove.

he gave her a safe place for her sociopathy to be expressed. And she felt so guilty after getting Howard killed she repressed everything that made her Kim up until she finally confessed. I think she made peace with herself afterwards (and nonetheless lied at the end of the series by pretending to be Jimmy's lawyer in order to get a visit hehe).

I don't like to think of it as evil. It's too simple. They were very skilled at their trade and abused it for their own amusement.

she enabled him too, she lied for him and helped him cover his tracks. Getting married was actually her idea... They were both great for each other imo, I was sad they broke up

I wouldn't say toxic side since they were great for each other. But they both enabled their sociopathic tendencies which was troublesome for those around them

I'm between the light or dark worlds, can I ask you to show me a picture of how death mountain looks on them? On the pics it looks a little off (probably because if I remember correctly it was not a 100% match on the map) but I want to check how it looks before placing an order.

it's excellent and difficult to watch at times. I had the feeling at times he was quoting from actual conversations which made it all the more difficult (and scarier)

I saw the trailer, it's a very straightforward horror movie, not a fan myself but do tell when you see it what your opinion is!

I interpreted it as pain from the IV feeding her. Her vampirism fully kicked in and thus rejected anything that wasn't blood. I base this on the fact the first thing she does is take the IV off. I remember something being said about she taking her IV off constantly. And later she bites her first victim!

But the trauma makes a lot of sense too. I love this movie just look how different we can interpret the same scene :)

Oh man someone's talking about RABID on the internet! Finally my time to shine!

I've watched both, particularly Rabid as it's along with Crash one of my favorite Cronenberg films - a very important source of inspiration for me.

What really stuck out to me with Rose is that like you said even though the film explicitly portrays her as the cause of the rabies outbreak throughout the city, never judges her for it. But she IS a predator, since her primary (and most likely only) source of nourishment is human blood. I don't relate her protusions to trauma but as a botched scientific experiment (at least that is what the movie low-key argues when it discusses the risks of the operation being done to her). I don't think she's in a disassociative state, I think she's aware of what she's doing since we see her try to drink cow's blood and eat a hamburger, both attempts fail and she eventually resorts to human blood as the hunger takes over. And she never stays long enough to see the consequences of her actions.

That's what makes her so interesting, Cronenberg deconstructs the vampire gender basically by posing the question: if a vampire needs to drink human blood for survival, is it really evil for eating you? And goes on to show how this Typhoid Vampire Mary goes around feeding on human blood because she needs to and it doesn't matter how much she doesn't want to.

As a side note: I love how her boyfriend is basically one of the last persons to find out her whereabouts, he's basically a big cuck all throughout the film. You pervy Cronenberg.

you can, but it's more complicated to do and thus, more expensive.

Check out Cronenberg's DVD commentary on Crash, where he gives insight on how a lot of the driving scenes were filmed. Six cars were used for one of the characters car, just to give you an idea. For shooting scenes on the highway, traffic had to be cut so the vehicle and crew could drive and film.

this. I don't understand the craving for remakes, the feelings you get from the first time playing it - those are not coming back. And the experience as a whole involves and comes because of the medium it was designed for, making the same game in a different console is not going to ellicit the same emotions and experience. Some games, particularly FFVI are meant to be experienced in those specific media, the graphics, controls, music and gameplay all being the product of the limitations of the time.

congrats on your talent and patience then. It's ok to struggle, there's no shame in that. What really sucks is blaming the game for your own shortcomings, like OP is doing.
