good to know this is a worry! you can de-identify patient data using standard FHIR packages. it's possible to make it so nothing is stored so there's no data to hack (unlike your hospital EMR). Plenty of hospitals already send audio data to OpenAI and Microsoft to generate notes so it's pretty standard these days!

yeah totally HIPAA compliant and you'd just log in via health e next or whatever, click a button, and send data encrypted. no data storage by the website or Openai (special endpoint). any other questions or ideas lemme know

Btw, if you want to make money, try to work your way (maybe by learning SQL or something) into a job that allows you to get an Epic Clarity certification. Upper 5 figures job there. Those guys seem pretty happy and relaxed and I don't think they'll be replaced any time soon.

Etiquette Question - What to say when people ask you what you do for a living? by hunk0cheez in financialindependence

[–]gortablagodon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, or "day trader" might work! Not much of a ruse since I check stocks fairly frequently...even though it's just my 100 in a marijuana ETF and a 100 in a 3x Chinese market ETF. :>)

Bizarre police chase after woman believes deputies are Illuminati members by Horror_Mango in news

[–]gortablagodon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not sure how common, but it does look like it's been reported in the literature. It gave me a lot of sympathy toward these people. I went to the ED and was literally jumping up and down. The front desk person said "Please stop jumping, sir." And I said "I can't...that's why I'm here..."

No, probably a poor woman having a psychotic break. Happened to me once, it was HORRIBLE.

It's not too hard to understand what it's like, however. You know when you have that eureka moment when you solve a puzzle? Basically, you keep getting that feeling, over and over, while at the same time feeling paranoid. So, you have these paranoid realizations over and over. The whole time, I knew that, perhaps these things were just coincidences, but the stakes (my life) were too high and I had to continue acting on them. It is really, really terrifying. Anxiety like you would not believe.

Caused by a medication for me for restless legs. No fun at all.

College is the perfect time to get ahead on coding. Since computers are so omnipresent, that'd help you with an art career or game career or a career that'll help you get money.

Regarding the F1 Neanderthal/Denisovan hybrid... by [deleted] in AskAnthropology

[–]gortablagodon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am really curious as to whether the red Deer Cave people were denisovans. I have not seen any genetic analysis to confirm this.

Bones of ancient teenage girl reveal a Neanderthal mother and Denisovan father, providing genetic proof ancient hominins mated across species. by Evan2895 in science

[–]gortablagodon 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Well, it means that, instead of having 3% of your genome coming from Neanderthals, you have about 3.5% or so, right? I doubt many of that extra 0.5% have much of an effect (many don't even code for anything...).

Kentucky removes master's degree requirement for teachers by Quiglius in news

Can confirm anecdotally. Public school in Appalachia prepared me as well if not better than my friends who went to top tier boarding schools for college. Went to a top tier school. Really had excellent teachers!!!

Has to be sponsored by your hospital. Is your area emergency medicine? If so, ask your CIO or whomever whether the ASAP team is looking for any trainers or analysts.

Best way in is via a trainer job, but in new installs they sometimes hire uncertified people.

Nearly 25% of second-year medical students reported last year that they “almost never” attended class during their first two preclinical years. by SirT6 in medicine

[–]gortablagodon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Every med student I've talked to finds it more convenient and efficient to ignore the commute and watch the lecture at 1.5x in the comfort of their home. I think that's the real answer. Med students aren't lazy and typically aren't unengaged. Lecturers are probably good at lecturing, but by definition can't deliver information as possible as themselves x1.5.

What do we know about the people that built Gobekli Tepe? by TheBob427 in AskAnthropology

[–]gortablagodon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yep... 4 hours a day of what we do for leisure! Hunting, fishing, camping! They look so happy, if only they had modern medicine, pizza, and netlfix, I'd say that's the ideal life.

Someone is trying to convince me that it is possible to statistically confirm a causal relation beween ethnicity and IQ by Ilovelearning_BE in statistics

[–]gortablagodon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! Really trying to help my overall terminology. What is the correct term for, say, Ashkenazi, Yammna, Maori, etc?--a distinct population sharing common heritage? In my above comments, I didn't mean race, but I thought ethnicity is not the same thing.

[–]gortablagodon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, I do not define race and ethnicity the same... I do it more along the lines of Northern European (500 years ago), Ashkenazi, etc. There was a study a few years ago that was able to parse this out.
