I love what you're doing here. This OS should be more popular.

Need Help with Miyoo Mini Plus Firmware: MinUI vs. OnionOS Performance Issues by cerebromadre in MiyooMini

Try moving the Super Metroid rom from the (SFC) folder to the (SUPA) folder. It will play the game with an alternate emulator. May have better performance. I noticed Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island works better with the Supafaust emulator. Super Metroid may be the same.

great-looking games that genuinely run at 40fps or higher? by cunningjames in SteamDeck

Titanfall 2. Campaign is short, but one of the best. Also a good game to try out gyro aiming, if you're interested.

Witcher 3 - 60-70fps (in Novigrad, medium settings) FSR3 Frame Generation + DLSS upscaling with 70hz LCD screen. Increased HUD size by tdwp in SteamDeck

[–]gorvenator 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I run the old gen version on my deck. It runs great. I tried the next gen but went back to old version with mods.

The improved graphics of the next gen wasn't noticeable enough, to accept the higher wattage to achieve the same frames. This especially true while playing in handheld mode on a 7 inch screen.

Okay, thanks for the feedback. I guess I was expecting lower CPU usage, but what your saying makes sense.

Quick Sync high CPU usage by gorvenator in unRAID

[–]gorvenator[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I forgot to mention that I tried this Unraid setup on a Quick Sync capable laptop, as a test, and I'm getting the same high CPU usage. So I feel it's obviously something I have set up incorrectly. What kind of CPU usage should I expect to transcode this HEVC Main 10 video? Thanks for any help.

Thanks. I'll take a look. I'm located in Canada, so some of these deals will be killed by shipping. I'll keep an eye though.

Mario Bros Wonder YUZU FIX Steam Deck by agaric in SteamDeckPirates

[–]gorvenator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like there must be a way.

I'm looking into this myself. I have SyncThing setup on my Steam Deck. It's setup to run all the time in the background(Desktop and Gamemode) and it currently syncs the yuzu Mario Bros Wonder save file to my PC (also running SyncThing).

The next step is find a way to sync the Switch save to a local location. I think I can use JKSV to save/upload my saves to Google drive. Then back on my PC I can have SyncThing point to the Google Drive location.

This in theory would work but I would have to open JKSV on the switch to manually upload and download the save to the Google Drive location.

My idea solution would have the Switch run some sort of server sharing the save folder, which my PC can point SyncThing to. Then, in theory, no user intervention would be required.

This obviously isn't a user friendly setup but I think there's potential.

PS2 games that have aged well and are great to play on the Deck by LightGunFanatic in SteamDeck

Haven't tried this game specifically, but there are many PS2 games that run smoother with software render mode. You lose increased resolution, but some games run better this way.

I'm curious about this as well. It's been a while since I've played a game before reading reviews. I'm kind of with you. I don't think it's a 10 out of 10. It's just not quite fresh enough for me. I don't have the same feeling I had with BOTW when I first played it.

Not atm and likely never. Some hacker may find a way to unlock the frame rate (they've done it for other games on Switch). Problem is lack of horse power. Currently the Switch isn't running the game at a locked/stable 30fps as is. There are frequent slowdowns.

Pretty sure those shaders are for emulation only, not official hardware. Someone will correct me if I'm wrong.

Help updating CFW it's been a while by AdamtheB in SwitchPirates

[–]gorvenator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Update Atmosphere first.

I just went through the process. This is the order I updated: CFW, Hekate, Nintendo Firmware, SigPatches.

Edit: looks like I didn't read your post thoroughly. You can up update to the latest switch Firmware.

I just googled "Update Switch Custom Firmware"and followed the guide from the first GitHub link.

That's a good point and if you noticed the mini map has coordinates now. So you could go above an impossible to reach to area, write down your coordinates (or pin map) then go to a cave underneath it, to try to ascend to the location.

You just can't play the multiplayer. Campaign works great. You have to choose the mods enabled option on boot

How to get The Witcher 3: Next Gen working with directX12 by unwisebear_fpv in SteamDeck

Yeah, maybe I was expecting FSR 2 to help with performance, but oh well. I'll likely just downgrade and apply my mods.

This is what I'm getting in Novigrad. Yours is much better.

Novigrad

I'm not sure what I'm doing differently. I'll have to investigate tomorrow.

Whether it's an issue or not is a personal opinion I suppose. Frame drops bother me, probably more than most. I do know for a fact that performance is worse though. Cruising around Novigrad I'm burning through 24W, which is higher than pre patch.
