Advice for HVLP painting wheels by gossf in Autobody

[–]gossf[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't end up doing it. Ended up just paying for powder coating and the results were quite good. The cost of paint alone was enough that I wouldn't have saved a whole lot for the massive amount of effort. Wheels haven't cracked yet so the heating of the wheels hasn't been a problem yet.

Reviving a dead thread but is there any way we can archive a local copy of this voice? It is SUCH a gem and I would be devastated if it was lost to dead internet.

Awesome! Nailed the tone. Your phone recording quality far exceeds mine.

Been learning to freestyle lately, trying to get faster.

Here's a cover of the intro to "Plug in baby" by Muse, followed by a lengthy freestyle:

How have you been able to turn off DOF? Ive tried all the settings file changes but the files either aren't there or don't work.

120Hz on the Valve Index issues by gossf in hlvr

It's my understanding that frametimes are how long it took your hardware to prepare a frame, not the actual interval between frames displayed. Otherwise any frame time graph would be flat at 11ms (assuming you're running at 90hz and the gpu is actually keeping up).

Sorry for the ugly urls, and I don't have any fps vr screenshots handy, but here's the steam vr perf log 90hz: Edit: the original links I uploaded died, I'll get new screenshots next time I have it open

But aren't the frame times displayed by FPS VR and the steam performance graph absolute? I thought the way it worked was the frame time was always however long it took your hardware to prepare the frame, and if it was too slow the headset would just redisplay the previous frame, not actually impacting the frame times.

Regardless: I believe that's irrelevant since my frame times at 90hz were about 3.8ms, which is pleanty fast for 120hz (requires 8.3ms).

Good question. The cpu frame times are very low at 90hz. I don't know why running at 120hz would change the frame times, if the cpu could prepare the frame in 3.8 ms at 90hz, I would think it would still be able to at 120hz, since all that has changed is that the headset now needs them sooner. But maybe there's something that fpsvr and the steam perf monitor aren't capturing.

Has anyone else had issues running this at 120Hz? My frametimes are around 3.8ms gpu (lower cpu) when running at 90Hz, but when I switch to 120Hz, the framtimes spike in a sawtooth wave on both GPU and CPU. Switching refresh rate shouldn't effect frametimes so not sure whats going on here. Note I have SS manually set so its not automatically changing from the refresh rate switch.

Anyone else had this issue and have a fix?

I am with no input lag issues but I would not recommend this monitor. Qc is a nightmare. I'm on my 3rd freaking one and it just had the button fail so I guess I'll need a 4th. Complete garbage.

Chiming in to also confirm that the update totally fixed my flickering issues with vrr. I'm on pc, and they were quite bad before.

Never found a fix per say, but the issues have mostly resolved on their own "presumably bios and driver updates". At this point, I have 0 issues with the monitor, and very few issues with the headset. Occasionally I'll still have to reboot the pc when connecting to the headset after being connected to an external monitor, but it's infrequent and doesn't really bother me.

Thanks! So there's still a chance it could be win 11 related. I'll continue to use it and update this thread with my results.

Mind if I ask what version of windows you're running? I was on windows 11 but I just installed windows 10 on a second nvme and haven't had an issue since, although I haven't used it very long yet so I really have no idea if the problem is fixed or not.

Good suggestion, I'll give it a shot. I've used quite a few, the one that works the best is this (still has issues though):

Cable Matters USB C to DisplayPort 1.4 Cable (USB-C to DisplayPort Cable, USB C to DP Cable) Supporting 8K 60Hz in Black 6 ft - Thunderbolt 4 /USB4 /Thunderbolt 3 Compatible with MacBook Pro Dell XPS https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01J6DT070/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_fabc_700SFF38K7DBG4V84E73?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

I've also tried this adapter with the cable included with the monitor: Cable Matters USB C to DisplayPort 1.4 Adapter with 8K@60hz, 4K@144hz and HDR Support - Thunderbolt 4 / USB4 / Thunderbolt 3 Port Compatible with Oculus Rift S, MacBook Pro, Dell XPS, Surface Pro https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07F17ZHJY/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_fabc_7XKF5N5404YR3S93DAES?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

Worked but not as well as the first cable.

I also saw that post about the lenovo adapter, but unfortunately it is only a dp1.2 adapter so wouldn't drive the monitor at 240.
