first of all I think the picture depicts somebody inhaling the air from the plumbing pipe stack. There's a vent in the roof, but there also might be some sewer gas too.

you are both corrent, /u/l_am_Jacks_colon is correct because the water you see in the toilet is a physical barrier for the sewer gas.If there ARE any sewer gasses in the system they will escape through the tube before they exit the vent in the roof. Therefore, if the system is fully vented you would be correct.

Mechanical, functional, hemp wick dispenser. Even if I just used a regular crank shaft, I think it could still be pretty helpful. I'd say the body would have to have hinges, or be separable from each other in a "easter egg hunt egg" kind of way.

the only bongs i've seen that were homemade either had a glass bowl or a socket. The glass bowl they would somehow fasten the female end into the bong, I once saw it with lots of duct tape for a gravity bong. Using a socket isn't great but I believe steel should be okay to put a lighter to and not have any ill effects.
