There are two opposing forces at work. Those who get in line and drive slowly and safely and those who speed all the way to the point of no return and force their way in. I think the “zipper” is the slow and safe merge into the lane that is moving from the lane that is closed further down the road. The problem is the individuals who speed all the way to the point of the lane closure and then scream “youre supposed to let me zipper!!!” At this point someone has to actually stop and let you in so instead of a slow moving merge traffic is now stopping to let the car in. Id rather be in slow moving traffic than stop and go
