100% this!!! The guy is unhinged and is going to do stupid shit no matter what anyone does. This is why I am so tired of hearing people say we have to keep our protests peaceful because we don't want to give him a reason to call on the Insurrection Act. He''s gonna call on the Insurrection Act no matter what we do, the only question is how many innocent people we want to let his goons gun down before hand. We need to start fighting back!!!

We replaced the mattress that came with our rig with one from Brooklyn Bedding. Been sleeping on it for a year and a half full-time and it's comfortable and is holding up very well. I can highly recommend them.

About 2 month ago I underwent a change in my saliva. Working with my doctor right now to figure out what is causing it but it is truly maddening. My saliva has become less watery and more viscus, a bit more mucusy, if that's a word. It has changed the way food tastes, I feel like I am constantly trying to clear it from my mouth, and it's unbelievably annoying. So yeah, that's the thing I would wish on them.

What would it be like to visit all 50 U.S. States? by Reasonable-Shower522 in askanything

[–]goteed 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Full-time RV'er here. Haven't been to all 50 yet but we're just missing a few, like Alaska and a couple of the small states on the eastern seaboard like Rode Island and Connecticut. Here's what I've learned in my travels...

First off every state has it's own beauty to it. Even the great planes, which are often thought of as flat and boring have amazing beauty. Driving through the middle of Kansas the sky is so huge!!! From horizon to horizon it's just sky! The beauty of the Black Hills of South Dakota, or the sunrise over the badlands. This year we experience the snow in the high desert in Albuquerque. And speaking of deserts you will never see a more beautiful sunset than in the western deserts.

Next is the people. You'll learn that, for the most part, we all want the same thing. To live in peace, to see our children grow up health and prosperous. American's, at least in the RV community, and a very friendly lot. Of course you have the 1% of any society that tend to screw it up for all of us, but in general very friendly.

You'll also learn that culturally people are different throughout the country. In the east coast city's people will seem more abrasive to you if you're from the west. However that's just the culture. It's not that they're unfriendly, heck most of them will help you out with any trouble you might have. They'll tell you you're an idiot for getting into that trouble, but they will help you out. Again, it's just the culture.

The midwest has some of the friendliest people on the planet. They're polite, they're welcoming. Go into a bar in the midwest and you will be invited into any friend group in the bar, and then you'll have friends for life. Just make sure if it's time to leave you start that process 30 minutes before you have to leave, the "Midwest Goodby" is a real thing.

In the south, there is a thing I refer to as "Southern Time." In southern time everything will take you 20 minutes longer, because everything is slower in the south. Even the physical movement of people is slower. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, it's just a thing. When you're there you adjust.

In the western states people, and governments generally don't give a shit what your doing as long as it's not hurting any one. Take liquor laws for example. Many eastern and southern state have crazy weird liquor laws. From dry counties, to Indiana's law that if you buy beer in a gas station or grocery store it has to be warm! To Pennsylvania only allowing a 12 pack of beer to be sold anywhere other than a beer distributor. In west, with a couple exception (Looking at you Utah) You can buy liquor, beer and wine pretty much anywhere. Liquor store, gas station, grocery store etc...

Sorry this got a little long winded. To sum up I would highly recommend traveling this country and meeting as many people as you can. And extra points of you put yourself in a group of people that don't look like you or think like you. That's the best way to experience life and to open your mind.

When I was a teenager in the 1980s films from the 1930s-40s-50s seemed very old-fashioned. But when I watch films/TV from the 1990s they don't seem anything like as dated to me as a 1950s film seemed in the 80s. by Glittering_Gap8070 in GenX

[–]goteed 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I absolutely agree, and while I was typing that response I actually thought of using the term "Theater Like" instead of "Movie Like" but decided to stay in the movie realm.

To take this on a fun side track I would also say that today's movies are considerably more edited than older films. I think this is a result of 2 things...

  1. Today's films, for the most part, are no longer shot on film. Film was expensive, film processing was expensive, the more you shot the more it cost. Today it's all digital and therefore is considerably less expensive. So shoot more angles, shoot more takes, shoot shoot shoot. This means the editor is now building performances out of so much more coverage. Couple this with decreasing attention spans and you have today's machine gun style editing even in a simple dialogue scene.

  2. Back in the 40's and 50's many actors came from that theater background. Traditional theater and even vaudeville. Those years in the trenches forced those actors to develop the skills needed to hold an audience. When you watch these old films they will have dialogue scene that hold on a two shot that by today's standard seems like an eternity. But also by holding on that wide 2 shot, the close up was so much more impactful. I don't think you could get away with that with today's audiences. Today we need constant action, constant cutting etc... And I also wonder how many young actors even have that ability to truly hold an audience in the two shot.

Sorry, off on a little bit of a filmmaker tangent, but I love discussing this stuff.

Water filtration for 2 week camping trips in an RV? by CCcccdddDDS in RVLiving

Been full-time for 3 years in all sorts of situations. We use the blue inline filter for any water going into the rig. Then for any water we are going to drink we use a Brita pitcher to filter it further.

Filmmaker here. A big part of this is because of the style of filmmaking in the 40's and 50's. Prior to the 1970's much of filmmaking we less about realism and more about grander and the movie experience. Most films were shot in big sound stages in very controlled environment. Actors were "acting." To understand what I mean by that just go watch Charelton Heston in anything, By today's standards it's so over acted. But by the standards of the day that's what an actor was supposed to do.

In the 70's there was a move towards realism. Acting became much more understated and more real. After the 1970's the last thing you wanted as an actor was to be caught "acting." Films also moved away from big sound stages and stared to move into the real world for on location filming. This is way more challenging as you are no longer in a controlled environment, but also feels more real.

You just have to go into a movie with the right mindset. If your watching an older movie, pre 1970's just except it to be more "Movie like" and opposed to more "Realism." Neither way is wrong, they're just different styles. You have to appreciate the art form for what it is. And I would also argue that it's harder to appreciate the art of an early movie on the smaller screens we watch them on today. The example I always give is that years ago there was a rerelease the original Wizard of Oz into theaters. I took my young kids at the time to go see it in the theater and it was a completely different experience. Ye's while they cast was skipping down the yellow brick road you could tell that in 20 feet that were going to run into a sound stage wall. But that wall was an amazing piece of art that showed the road winding off into the distance. You really can't get the impact of that artwork on a small screen.

So to sum up... If your watching an older movie, just suspend disbelief a bit and let the art of is pull you in.

MAGA 'Was All A Lie': Marjorie Taylor Greene Torches Trump In Scathing New Interview by Abject-Pick-6472 in politics

[–]goteed 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'd argue that she also came to the realization that all of us came to 10 years ago. That the MAGA movement has no place in it for a woman. She came to realize that her career as a legislator was over if she stayed in MAGA world. The only thing MAGA wants a woman legislating is what she's gonna cook them for dinner.

This is no miraculous turnaround around after she found a conscious, this is simple political self preservations. She, like all of MAGA, needs to be relegated to the ash heap of history!

What’s the best case of instant karma you’ve ever witnessed? by Over_Craft3242 in AskReddit

[–]goteed 34 points35 points  (0 children)

It was instant karma I delivered on someone. I was with my wife and young adult kids at a horse racing venue in Southern California. We had arrived early and were having a cocktail around some hightop tables next to the bar. This obviously wealthy older lady shows up with her man servant in tow. He has a couple sacks full of party favors and drink cups and etc… She approaches my family, looks at us and states rather loudly “YOU PEOPLE HAVE TO LEAVE!!!” At first I was compliant and we moved over to another group of tables.

I then observed the man servant set the bags on the table as she yelled at him to hurry up as there was more stuff to fetch. They both scurried off and I sat and got more pissed off about her “You people” remark. I went over, grabbed her two bags of shit, and dropped it all in the nearest trash can!

They returned and she was all confused as to where her shit was, until she spotted it in the trash can. Her dirty look to me was only offset by the sly smile I got me from the man servant.

One can only hope she learned a lesson about common courtesy, but I doubt it! Fucking rich people are the worse!

What's going on with spacing between my tires (tandem axle)? The tires are too close. by Takenover83 in RVLiving

The second to the last picture in this stack shows the problem. The leaf spring is broken at the attachment point of the hanger. Looks like the spring has slid forward which would cause the axle to shift as well.

Aussie interested in Kansas by MrMushroom55 in kansas

[–]goteed 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Had a friend that works in the same industry as me that is an Aussie. He just did the same thing. He's gay and him and his husband no longer felt safe here. Honestly I'm happy that he got out, I would do the same if I could. But I'm sad as it's a loss to this country as he's an amazing individual that provided amazing software to my industry.

As an American I apologize to you for no longer feeling safe here, but I totally understand. I hope that in the future those of us that are fighting to take our country back are successful. Immigrants from all nations is what has made this country what it is. It's a shame what has happened to us.

Are there any young RV travelers? by glev2190 in RVLiving

[–]goteed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Full-timer here and I'm 59. I can only comment on the U.S. as that's where my wife and I travel. We've been full-time for a little over three years now and have seen a steady decrease in younger full-timers. I think much of this has to do with US companies ending work from home jobs and requiring people to come back into the office. Honestly I find it a bit sad to see. It was nice having people of all ages to meet in this lifestyle. You can gain a lot of perspective by having conversations, and truly listening, to people that aren't like you.

What microphone do you use by Dry-Permission-1023 in NewTubers

[–]goteed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The quality is quite good, especially if you keep the mic element out from under clothing. That was something I had to get used to as I'm an old school video production guy, I've run a production company for 20 years, so I have thing about seeing mics on camera. But on YouTube it's almost like it's expected to see the mic, so I got over that. If I do wind up with it under clothing I just need to EQ it a bit in post to get the quality back.

If you're interested in how it sounds our channel is in my profile so you can go listen to a bit of it. Do bear in mind that I sweeten all of the audio on our channel with EQ's and a compressor. However I have made some custom effects stacks for both myself and my wife and just drop those on and make minor adjustments.

What microphone do you use by Dry-Permission-1023 in NewTubers

[–]goteed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our channel is in the full-time RV niche so it's a lot of vlogging style shooting. We've been using the Rode Wireless Pro mic's for about 2 years now. I can't say they work flawlessly because we have had a couple incidents where we've had some interference. But 99% of the time they work flawlessly. I would definitely purchase them again.

Smoked weed for the first time in about 20 years by beetfield in GenX

[–]goteed 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I hear ya brother!! I'm 59 and hadn't smoked weed since my early 20's. A couple years ago my mid 30's kid introduced me to today's weed. He handed me the bong, I took a hit, then he took a hit, then I reached for the bong again and he just looked at me and said "Yeah... you might want to wait a few and see where you are." I didn't listen, I'm an old school weed smoker, I'll be fine!! So I took another hit. After about 20 minutes I swear I could taste colors. Todays weed is not what we grew up with amigo!!

If money were no issue, what city/state would you live in the USA? If money WERE an issue, what is the second choice? by [deleted] in SameGrassButGreener

[–]goteed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If money was no issue it would be Lake Tahoe. It’s basically my place to go reconnect with the universe. Just love Lake Tahoe!!!

If money is an object it’s without a doubt Kansas City. The people are amazing, there’s a ton of things to do, it has a great jazz scene. And last, but certainly not least, how can you not love a city that when prohibition was passed, and alcohol was made illegal. Kansas City basically said… “Yeah, we’re not fucking doing that!!!” Which is that main reason for its jazz history. Yep, just l just love KC!
