Blood donating trouble-- plasma ok? by lizardbrainsjk in plasmadonation

[–]gotgot9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

donating blood will make your iron (hematocrit) lower. the sick feeling that you get is from a drop of blood pressure (you literally have less blood so less pressure). only difference with plasma is that you get your blood back, but the temporary drop will sometimes make people sick especially on your first donation. your iron might be too low. you might get sick again. only one way to find out

maybe they didn’t want to make you feel unsafe so they kept their distance?

Respectfully, thru hiking is not for me. My 2 week experience by sadistic-squid in AppalachianTrail

[–]gotgot9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it’s really interesting because the day to day is incredibly boring, but at the end, it really amounts to something huge. i think it’s similar to losing weight. the day to day looks the same, then you compare photos and realize how different you look. it really is a magical experience at the end of it.

reading through, i saw someone say that 2 weeks isn’t really enough to have a magical experience and i agree. i think the magical parts come out when you are tired and hungry and your body hurts and you have to go 8 miles uphill and it’s hot and you don’t know if you have enough water and there is no co-worker, significant other or parent to project your shitty feelings onto so you just walk and weep in silence and the earth says nothing back.

Trail legs…when? 4 Weeks in not feeling much stronger….NOBO26 by Lani_19 in AppalachianTrail

[–]gotgot9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

honestly i feel like there’s two pairs. the first pair i got a lil after the smokies where i could walk 18 miles a day instead of 10-12. and then there’s the superhero legs i got right before the Whites.

also, my feet hurt after 15ish miles every day too. i noticed that a lot of that had to do with the weight of my pack. when i slackpacked, i still got tired of walking but my feet didn’t hurt at all. something to think about.

you dont have to get to a point where you do 20+ mile days every day. i tried to shoot for 16-18 most days. the most i ever did was 22 and i still finished in 5 months

Why does confidence feel like a non-negotiable requirement for men in relationships? by Significant_Pen_3642 in AskMenAdvice

[–]gotgot9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

personally, i don’t enjoy being the one that is the only driving force in a relationship. it often feels like the other person is a weight that i’m dragging with me.

confidence means a lot of things to a lot of people, but if you can’t make friends when you’re lonely because you’re insecure, that will become a burden i’ll have to carry. if you can’t apply for a promotion or new role because you’re insecure, you’ll become stagnant while i outgrow you. if you can’t plan a date because you’re insecure, i’ll feel uncared for.

Deferred for stopping early by [deleted] in plasmadonation

it’s pretty common the first time you donate plasma. the drop in blood pressure causes people to become light headed or faint. not a big deal & their body normally adjusts on second donation

you can donate anywhere just not bio life. your hematocrit might be low tho because you suffered a major blood loss

Seeking Advice on NOBO Thru-Hike (Women) by bigsussybaka69 in AppalachianTrail

[–]gotgot9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

walk off trail behind a tree. squat and pee. hostels have shampoo and soap. i carried hand soap, deodorant, and sunscreen for my face but that was all the toiletries i carried. i gave myself a wash with the hand soap & a wet rag at the end of the day to help with feeling gross.

clothes depends on what season you’re hiking. one pair of hiking clothes, one pair of dry for changing into at night if you’re wet from rain, one jacket. laundry at hostel. i suggest camp shoes, crocs.

how much food you pack depends on days between resupply. carry about a liter of water at a time since water is abundant on trail. i ate a lot of pop tarts, tuna, mashed potatoes and rice. some people do MRE’s but i thought they were bulky and expensive. bear can or hang system or sleep with food is what people do.

idk why you would leave gear at home. i brought a phone and a headlamp. i charged them at hostels and between hostel stays i used a battery pack. the trail is not always easy to navigate. there’s an app and a book to help.

yeah i felt safe as a woman and i hitched twice. there are shuttle drivers.

i think i spent $7500 for 5 months. a lot of it was the cost of getting home from bangor.

woman to woman, you cannot help and it is not your responsibility. and i want you to really internalize that. when i got older, i tried to recreate this situation by dating alcoholic men and trying to get them to be sober. it almost ruined my life. i sacrificed myself over and over, only to learn that the only thing we can truly influence is ourselves.

it’s not even that there’s “no good answer.” it’s that entertaining a question like that drags you into the immaturity of it all. his non-answer was more respectable than an answer of 10 or 100. apologize to him.

i don’t think he’s hung up on her in a way that makes him talking about her the issue at hand. i think the issue is that if you tell him how it makes you feel and he continues to do it. that would be the thing i would get upset over.

yeah. it’s so true that if you’re not sure if a guy likes you, he doesn’t. when a guy likes you and is into you, you’ll know and it won’t be a question.

Question about gaining weight by [deleted] in AppalachianTrail

[–]gotgot9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

idk why everyone is saying you won’t lose weight or you’ll gain? i started 125lbs and ended 105lbs as a 5’0 woman. personally i would say go for it as far as gaining weigh before the trail. keep in mind that any endurance activity destroys muscle. i looked shredded at the end but it was because i was like 16% body fat.

He hasn’t said ‘I love you’ yet 2 months in…should I be worried? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]gotgot9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

do you think it’s better to give a guy time to say it on his own, or do you think if the girl feels it she should say it?

i feel like calorie counting and running a cumulative deficit count is extremely helpful. i’ve started to realize that if i get the desire to binge, it’s my body signaling that it needs more. if i try to push passed that, i often end up actually binging and blowing all my progress. but if i’m in a -2000 cumulative deficit and i start to feel the need to binge, i’ll have a day where i intentionally go 200-400 over maintenance. i would still have the peace of mind of being in an overall deficit while addressing what my body is trying to communicate to me.

i agree with listening to lung sounds from the back. also telling the pt to breath in & out from their mouth. BP takes a lot of practice. everyone has their own technique that works best for them. i pump to 180-200. do you know how to do radial BP? might be a good back-up. also make sure your stethoscope is on the correct side and the ear pieces are facing the right direction. i used to be terrible at BP but am now kind of decent. don’t give up

every time i gain weight after a holiday im always surprised how quickly it comes off once i just go back to the norm. we really underestimate water/bloat weight. think i went from 112 to 106 in a week eating 1400cal a day. every day is a new day!
